A Message From Co-Chair
Rajeev K Varshney FRS | Director Centre for Crop and Food Innovation | State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre | Food Futures Institute | Murdoch University, Australia
I am thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of PAG Australia 2023, which I had the privilege of co-chair with Prof Rudi Appels, Dr Parwinder Kaur, and Steve Heller, organized by Darrin Scherago and Scherago International.
Held from 20-22 September, this event was a true genomics gala down under. The conference was started with welcome remarks from Prof Peter Klinken, Chief Scientist WA (via Video Message), and Honorable Stephen Dawson, Minister for Science & Innovation, WA. Thank you both for your time.
Thanks very much Honorable Roger Cook, Premier Western Australia and Business Events Perth for all your help and support last year to bring PAG to Australia.
We didn't just dive deep into the fascinating world of agri-genomics; we also rekindled old friendships and forged new ones in the process. With >360 attendees from 25 countries and an all-star lineup of over 150 speakers, PAG Australia 2023 has set a benchmark as the largest meeting in the PAG Asia/Oceania series.
Participants delved into enriching plenary talks, dynamic scientific sessions, and hands-on industry workshops. Moreover, the expo showcased innovations from leading companies in the agri-genomics sphere, and the gallery was illuminated with insightful posters from many young researchers.
A heartfelt thank you to all members of Organizing Committee, speakers, exhibitors, and partners for their invaluable contributions.
Here's to the future of agri-genomics, the memories we've created, and the many more collaborations to come!

A Message From Co-Chair Assoc. Prof. Parwinder Kaur | Director DNA Zoo Australia | The University of Western Australia
The inaugural Plant and Animal Genome (PAG) conference in Australia has been an absolute delight! It was a true celebration of genomics "down under," where we not only delved into the realm of science but also rekindled old friendships and fostered new connections.
With attendees representing 25 different countries and boasting an impressive lineup of over 150 speakers, PAG Australia 2023 emerged as a global genomics extravaganza, marking the largest gathering in the PAG Asia series to date!
What truly distinguished this event was the palpable shift into the post-genomic era. The presentations exemplified the pinnacle of applied genomics, setting the stage for thrilling future breakthroughs.
Co-chairing this remarkable group alongside Prof Rudi Appels and Prof Rajeev Varshney was a distinct honor. Hosting the conference in Perth, Western Australia, injected fresh vigor into the cutting-edge science and technology landscape.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Hon. Stephen Dawson, Minister for Emergency Services; Innovation and the Digital Economy; Science; Medical Research; Minister Assisting the Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade; Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council; Member for the Mining and Pastoral Region, and Professor Peter Klinken, Chief Scientist of Western Australia, for gracing us with their presence, extending a warm welcome to our delegates, and officially inaugurating the conference.
We were equally privileged to have esteemed guests from academia, industry, public service, and the business community in Western Australia join us.
As we journey forward, our commitment is unwavering in keeping the momentum of genomics alive. We eagerly anticipate even more groundbreaking discussions and valuable connections at future PAG events (listed below).
Our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for contributing to the making of PAG Australia 2023, a genomic celebration to be continued!
