What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it? 

MBA (Management information systems) This is to help broaden my knowledge in Administration especially towards data visualization and analysis as I prepare to assume a Management roles.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

This will be a great feat and another stepping stone towards my goal.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

Positive change towards diverse views both in culture and academics. Everyone has something to offer.

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

Seeing the home coming parade.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

Next level. Application of knowledge to business solutions and more learning.

Kyuhyeon "David" Cho

Seoul, South Korea

Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Studies


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

I majored in Entertainment Industry Studies (Audio Engineering) because I've always been fascinated by music technology and its potential to record and produce good songs. Choosing this field allowed me to explore my passion for studio recording and live sound operations.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduating means a lot to me and my family. It represents years of hard work, dedication, and sacrifices. It's a moment of pride and accomplishment for myself and my family, who have supported me throughout my journey.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

Throughout my experience at Delta State, I've undergone significant personal growth. I've become more confident in my abilities, learned to manage my time effectively, and developed strong critical thinking and communication skills.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

One of my favorite things on campus was attending DSU Fashion Board meetings and participating in the Student Senate. It allowed me to meet new people, explore different interests, and create lasting memories.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

A song that will always remind me of this time is "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts. Its reflective lyrics capture the "don't look behind and keep it pushing" emotions of leaving behind a significant chapter of life while looking forward to new beginnings.


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

Now that I've graduated, my plans include pursuing a career in audio engineering, videography, and lighting engineering and returning after a year or two for a Master's degree. I'm excited to apply the knowledge and skills I've gained at Delta State to make a meaningful impact in the entertainment industry.

Sasha Clare

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

I majored in exercise science and I picked this as growing up I have always played sports and been very interested in the mechanics behind it.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

I never really planned on going to university and then I got this offer to come to America to play soccer and get a degree and decided I should do it. My family are extremely proud of me for this!


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I feel like I have gained a lot of independence and confidence in myself.

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

I loved playing all the intramurals available and getting to try American sports I haven’t done. I would say my favourite memory from that would be winning flag football intramural with mostly International people on the team.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

"Sunday Best" by Surfaces

 

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

I am going to go home and play soccer in Northern Ireland’s top league and try to get a job in strength and conditioning.

Poppy Derhun

Hastings, England

Bachelor of Social Work


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

Major is Social work. I chose this because I have an interest in advocacy and social change.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduating feels amazing, four years of work and being able to go into my field of study and interests is exciting.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I have changed through experiencing a different country and area of the world. I have created friendships that will last a lifetime.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

My favourite thing to do on campus is playing soccer at the athletic facility. My favourite memory is living with and close to my best friends and all the fun times we had.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

A song that will always remind me of this time in my life is "Freed from Desire" by Gala. We played this in the locker room before and after games.


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

My plans now that I am graduating is to return back to the UK and carry on playing soccer.

Marie Guillaume

Bordeaux, France

Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

My major is Business Administration (General Business). To be honest, I did not really know what to do before coming to study in the USA that is why I chose that. However, I ended up being very interested in management, marketing and statistics, which was great!


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

It means so much to me and my family! After everything that I have been through, and after all the work I’ve put in those past few years, it feels good to have overcome all the obstacles on the way and made it this far.


Now it’s time for me to start a new chapter somewhere else and go even further!


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I am definitely not the same person I was four years ago. I can feel that I am mentally stronger, way more mature, and completely autonomous. Thanks to tennis mostly but also thanks to the teachers, the coaches I have had throughout the years, and thanks to my friends and family.


Of course, not to forget that I can now speak English fluently and have been able to practice my Spanish with my teammates!

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

I loved going out for walks at night on golden hour with my roommate and teammate Adriana Subias. Nothing can replace the Delta’s sunset!

Also, going up the stairs of the stadium after a good workout and enjoying the view from there is a good memory as well.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

I have two songs that will remind me of this amazing time I’ve had here at DSU. I would say “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen. Because it is a country song, and because it reminds me of good times that I’ve had with very good friends of mine whom I’ve made along the way. The second one is “100 shots” by Young Dolph. That one is my new anthem, my pre-game song before a tennis match. It will remind me forever of my Head Tennis Coach Will Irvin and Coach Turner, along with the crazy nerves you can feel before a game!


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

I am going to do a Master’s in Business Analytics and International Marketing in Boston next year, sadly with no more tennis. And after that, I have no idea!

Kanav Kaushal

What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

My major is Computer Information Systems, and I chose this major because I wanted to learn the foundations of both the technology and management sides so that I can transition between technical and non-technical roles when needed.

What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduation marks a special milestone for me and my family as I am the fourth generation to attend college, and graduating from a US university has made it particularly meaningful.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I haven't changed a lot, but one notable change is that I now complete my assignments before the deadline, which has been a significant improvement.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

My favorite thing to do on campus was meeting new people and giving them tours as I'm a Delta Diplomat. Making new friends was always a highlight for me.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

"Moments Like This" by The Afters


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

I plan to work in the IT sector for a year and then enroll in a Master's program.

Chlöe Kotzé

Master of Science in Sport and Human Performance


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

Masters in Exercise Science, and I chose this because I have a passion for learning how the body moves and helping others reach their health goals. 

What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduating means achieving a goal that I never thought I would, and being far away from home, this makes my family very proud and excited for what my future holds.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I have become more responsible and learned to embrace certain challenges and problem-solving experiences rather than shying away from them.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

My favorite memory was having lunch on the quad in the summer time.


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

I plan on working in the US for a year and using this time to gain experience and see more of this beautiful country!

Sophie Lutz

What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

I decide to double major in Entrepreneurship and International Business Management. I chose it because I have always had an interest in owning my own business that might eventually expand on an international level.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Receiving a degree from a higher institution will allow me to follow my dreams and give back to my parents who prioritized my education and sport over their free time.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

Throughout my years at Delta State, I turned more and more into a mature independent person that gained experience in preparation of the real world.

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

Being on the swim team and having that tight bond with your team members that are from all over the world. Sharing passion for a sport created a family away from home and introduced me to so many different cultures..


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

“I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. No matter which meets we were driving to or who we were competing against singing that song together motivated us to give it all and be proud to belong to this team.

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

I will start my MBA back home in September while working.

What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

MBA business and I chose it because it will give me a solid base for a future career in the field.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

It means a lot to me and my family, it is a very important milestone because it sets the standard for future generations in the family.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I certainly became more mature, learned how to live on my own and away from family support, it also improved me as a person due to the many people I met along the way.

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

I really enjoy working out, so a place that will stay with me, in my memories, is the school gym and the athletics gym.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

"Gotta My Own Way" from High School Musical

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

Moving to California, where I will be working and staying closer to my brother.

Mathilde Skovbakke

Kolding, Denmark

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

I am graduating with a bachelor's in 'Social Justice and Criminology.' I chose this degree because I have always been interested in the study of crime through a behavioral and social science-based approach.


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

My plan after graduation is to go home and work full-time until next summer, where I will start my master's degree in 'Investigative Journalism.'

What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduating means a lot to me and my family. They have seen me go through both ups and downs during my time here, but they have supported me through this whole journey, and for that, I am forever grateful. I know they are very proud of me.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

Throughout my time here, I have grown a lot as a human. I have matured and gained a lot of knowledge about different cultures, but also about myself and my capabilities.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

My favorite memory is all the laughs I've had during my time on the Women's soccer team. Every game and practice were just so fun, and I am so lucky that I got to hang out with all my best friends and compete with them on my side every day.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

"Vienna" by Billy Joel. The song reminds me to slow down and not worry or rush, just enjoy the moment. 

Daniella Solkow

Cape Town, South Africa

Bachelor of Science in Biology


What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

My major was general biology. I chose this because i have always been interested in biology and it was my favorite high school class. I want to be able to use this degree to possibly work with animals and wildlife, or to be able to work in labs and help.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

It is something that we strive for and expect after many years of education and school. It isn't unusual back home. It is definitely very rewarding and accomplishing to be able to celebrate it all coming to an end and the hard work over the 4 years of college and the 12 years of school before that. To me I see it as an important celebration that all those years were worth it and now its time to enter the real world of working. 


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I have learnt so much, especially being far away from home. I am so much more independent and more mature. It has shaped me and shown me what I am capable of, especially being a student athlete too. 

What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

My favorite memory is definitely conference swimming championships. The atmosphere was so thrilling and being able to race and compete with everyone cheering you on from both the stands and behind the blocks is something I'll never forget.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

A song that will always remind me of this time is Backstreet Boys, "I Want It That Way," mainly because it became our team song my sophomore year and every time it played we'd all scream it so loud. Another song is "Waka Waka" by Shakira, as it has been my walk out song since freshman year. 

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

My plan is to find a biology related degree and start working under my student visa to find more of what I'm interested in.

Adriana Subias Botana

What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

I chose Computer Information Systems as my major because it is a great way to combine technology and business. Before starting college I was very interested in both business and technological aspects, and this major aligns perfectly with my interests and strengths.

In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I think that within the last four years, I've changed a lot and grown a lot. Taking on different obstacles has improved my character and helped me grow as a leader. Being part of the tennis team has been significant to my personal growth.


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

Choosing just one favorite memory from DSU is tough, but the team workouts at the Dorgan Center will always stick with me. Plus, meeting my best friend Marie Guillaume was definitely a highlight.


What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

“I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, and “100 Shots” by Young Dolph


What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

Next semester, I'm planning to start my master's degree studies at Delta State.

What does graduating mean to you and your family?

Graduating is a great opportunity. It means a personal achievement representing years of hard work and dedication.

Rishav Thakur

What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?

MBA business. It was the field I saw myself in while also working on my soccer career.


What does graduating mean to you and your family?

It has a big meaning since I’m the first one to graduate in my family, and it helps me to look back and see how much work I’ve put in.


In what ways have you changed throughout your experience at Delta State?

I’ve grown as a man and put my priorities straight.

What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

"That’s Life" by Frank Sinatra


What was your favorite thing to do on campus? Or a favorite memory?

Probably eating at the Union with my friends and also playing soccer to distract my mind a little bit.

What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

Find a job in a big city since I’ve always lived in small cities.
