Nonprofit News: July 2026

Upcoming Community Foundation of Sarasota County Grant Opportunities

Each year, the Community Foundation sets aside specific periods of time during which nonprofits can apply for different types of grants made possible by the generosity of our donors. We recently announced dates for several upcoming grant cycles. They are:

  • Ongoing through Aug. 1: Sponsorship Grants
  • Sponsorship grants are designed to support ticketed events that advance an organization's mission. Learn more here. (Please note: Nonprofits can continue to apply for sponsorships after Aug. 1, but they will not be reviewed until Oct. 1. Subsequent applications will not be reviewed until Dec. 1.)
  • Aug. 1-30: Community Impact Grants
  • Community Impact grants are designed to support nonprofits that help individuals, families, and households achieve lasting wellbeing and economic mobility, and reflect the foundation’s major areas of impact: Community Care, Empowerment and Success, and Belonging and Culture. Learn more here.
  • Sept. 15-Oct. 17: Capacity Building Grants
  • Capacity Building grants are designed to strengthen and support nonprofits so that they can build internal capacity, resilience, and long-term sustainability. Learn more here.

The Deadline to Apply for a Newtown Business Council Grant Is July 31

The Newtown Business Council, in partnership with the Community Foundation, is leading an effort to support long-term disaster recovery and resilience efforts for nonprofits serving the Newtown community. Through this participatory grantmaking process, nonprofits will have access to funding opportunities focused on long-term community stabilization, recovery, and resilience.

Priority funding areas include home repair and housing needs, case management, legal services, mental and behavioral health support, hurricane resilience education, senior recovery support, and temporary housing and neighborhood recovery resources.

The Newtown Business Council is serving as the community facilitation and engagement partner for the initiative, helping coordinate outreach, information sessions, and communication throughout the grant cycle.

The Florida Nonprofit Alliance Compensation & Benefits Survey Ends Soon

The deadline for nonprofits to contribute to the Florida Nonprofit Alliance’s Compensation & Benefits Survey is Monday, July 20.

Once the results are tabulated, a final report and dashboard will help Florida nonprofits demonstrate sound management to grantmakers, donors, and community stakeholders, while also supporting hiring, retention, and informed budgeting decisions. Most importantly, the data will help ensure your organization’s compensation practices remain competitive and aligned with the market. To provide county-level data, the alliance must have a minimum of five respondents per position and county to make the data robust enough to include in the report.

Please note: Your responses are confidential and will only be reported in aggregate.

Apply for Adult Scholarships Beginning Aug.15

Adult scholarships are open to residents of Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, and Charlotte counties who are 24 or older. Students must be pursuing or planning to pursue further education at an accredited university, community college, technical school, or certification program. Interested students can apply from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15.
