To the Best of Our Knowledge joins the KGOU lineup
|
Krista Tippett announced in March that her popular show On Being would be winding down broadcast production, and would transition to a seasonal podcast. The final broadcasts will be the week of June 26.
KGOU has been looking for a similar show to fill On Being's time slots, and we think we've found one listeners will like: To the Best of Our Knowledge is a nationally syndicated, Peabody award-winning show produced at Wisconsin Public Radio that explores ideas big and small through conversations with creators, thinkers and innovators. Tune in Sunday mornings at 6 a.m. beginning July 3.
There's also a vacancy to fill on Thursdays at 8 p.m. NPR's Throughline (now heard Sundays at 10 a.m.) will have a second airing Thursday evenings, starting July 7. Check out these shows in their new time slots.

Fundraising update: Your support makes it all work
|
June 30 marks the end of KGOU's budget year and fundraising is running slightly behind last year. We're hoping to have at least 200 more individuals begin or renew their support in the next few days, to fully fund KGOU's service for this year.
Your support will fund today's special coverage... and the news every morning and afternoon... and all the moments that are enlightening or memorable or inspiring... moments that connect us all to fact-based journalism and entertainment that expresses our humanity.
NPR and our other programming providers rely on the fees that KGOU and other local stations pay to carry the content you love. KGOU relies on people like you for the funding that makes the whole public radio system work. If you haven't given in a while, help us keep it all going with a donation in any amount you can give. We count on your generosity!

KGOU Readers Club: What's your favorite book about Oklahoma?
|
The KGOU Readers Club has discussed a number of books about Oklahoma or with some tie to the state. Now we want to know what book you think best tells a story of Oklahoma. It can be fiction or nonfiction, old or new, well known or obscure, featuring Oklahoma prominently, or as a supporting character. Submit your favorites and we might select yours as a future Readers Club read.
|
Tune in for the next Readers Club convening on Monday, June 27 at 1 p.m. for a live discussion of this month's selection, Oklahoma Beer - A Handcrafted History. Author Brian Welzbacher will join KGOU Managing Editor Logan Layden for a trip through the state's colorful history of brewing. We'll re-broadcast the discussion on Sunday, July 3 at 12 p.m. in case you'd like to revisit the topic with your own glass of suds at the ready.

Sunday Radio Matinee: Benching the Patriarchy - 50 Years of Title IX

Fifty years ago today, the federal law known as Title IX banned discrimination based on sex in educational institutions, changing college sports most notably. In this one-hour broadcast special, former NPR correspondent Emily Harris presents the story of two early pioneers who drove change in the women’s basketball program at the University of Oregon, which is a Pac-Ten powerhouse today. It's the KGOU Sunday Radio Matinee for June 26 at 12 p.m.

Holiday special programs for the 4th of July weekend
|
KGOU has great American music in store for the July 4th weekend. From Jazz in June's recent three-day outdoor festival, we'll have blues and jazz highlights tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 3 from 1 - 5 p.m. Hear the best of sets from JW-Jones, Marquis Hill & the Blacktet, Ghost-Note, and more recorded live.
And KGOU will once again be broadcasting the musical soundtrack to Norman's July 4th fireworks show -- at Reeves Park if you want to go in person, or to accompany the display wherever you are.
