Jim Naughton to Recite Sonnets of Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" at Y's Men's Classical Music Society on Tuesday

Honorary Y's Man and noted international actor, director, producer and voiceover artist, James Naughton will recite the sonnets of Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" electronically or, depending on his schedule, in person. The venue is the season opening meeting of the Y's Men's Classical Music Society on Tuesday, September 1, at 2:45 pm at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

"The Four Seasons," the best known of Vivaldi's works, composed in the early 18th century, gives musical expression to each season of the year. Each is accompanied by a sonnet written by the composer as well as, on Tuesday, photos of the locales provided by Society Co-chair Y's Man Dr. Harry Sauer who will lead the presentation. The program will be a truly multi-media performance.

If you plan to attend, please make a reservation with Ed Bloch at edbloch71@gmail.com. Y's Men, significant others and guests are all welcome.

Final Social Hour at Compo Beach Pavilion This Thursday

Y’s Men gathered at the Compo Beach pavilion last Thursday, the next-to-last time they meet there. The last get together is this Thursday (September 3) before regular speaker meetings begin on Thursday, September 10, back in the Saugatuck Congregational Church's Hoskins Hall.

The final Compo Beach pavilion Social Hour of the season will be this Thursday (September 3). Regular speaker meetings in Hoskins Hall at the Saugatuck Congregational Church resume on Thursday, September 10.

Enjoy a final blast of summer from 9:00 to 10:00 am this Thursday with complimentary coffee, donuts, bagels and great company. After the refreshments, join the walking group for a beachside walk to burn off a few calories, and bring your wife, too.

No beach sticker? No problem—just tell the parking guard you’re with the Y’s Men. If you do have a car with a sticker, please use that one so we don’t wear out our welcome with Parks & Recreation.

Y's Men Life Talk Group to Tackle the Topic of Maturity

The next Life Talk Group meeting will be Tuesday, September 8 at 2:00 pm in room 109 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. The topic will be: Maturity.

There are many ways to understand maturity, from the age-based definition, where 'mature’ is a euphemism for aging or old, to someone who is wise, thoughtful and well-grounded. It describes people who act like responsible adults, who have the emotional and mental skills of a grown-up. It can even be applied to children who are thought to be ‘mature' for their age.

What do you believe are the traits of a truly mature person? When have you found yourself acting in ways that weren’t mature at all — and were perfectly happy in those moments? So, how much maturity is enough?

Past President Mike Boyle Asks You to Share His 75th Birthday

Mike Boyle

Dear Y's Guys:

As your most recent past president, I am inviting every single one of you to celebrate my 75th birthday with me on Wednesday, September 9.

This is NOT a party. Instead, I’m hoping you’ll stop by my home in Southport anytime between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm that day to say a fairly quick hi, allow me to give you a “Mike hug,” and have a piece of cake. Again, this is NOT a party. Please, NO PRESENTS!!! A card would be lovely, but is not necessary.

If more than one of you show up at once, you can share some Y's Men time with whomever is here.  If no one is here but me, no worries. If you know me, great! If you don’t know me, don’t be shy. Stop by and introduce yourself.

As I said, all Y's Men are welcome! No pressure, of course. Just come if you’re interested. My address is 144 Osborne Lane in Southport.

Dewey Loselle Leads-Off New Season Thursday, September 10

Dewey Loselle's visitor badge to the World Trade Center on a fateful date.

Y's Man Past President Dewey Loselle is the first speaker of the Y's Men's 2026-2027 season which begins on Thursday, September 10. His talk, one day short of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, is entitled "Escape from the 63rd Floor of WTC I on 9/11."

Telling his story in full to a public audience for the first time in 25 years, Dewey will recount the day and that of his consulting team.

How did the day begin? What was it like inside the tower? What did he and his team know and when did they know it? How long did their escape take? What was the behavior of others trying to escape? What was their meeting like with Rescue 1? And what was the aftermath of that day?

Most important, according to Dewey, what role did fate, luck or Divine Providence play in what unfolded that day?

Y's Men Thursday morning meetings are in Hoskins Hall downstairs in the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East in Westport. Coffee, donut, and bagel social hour begins at 9:00 am, business meeting at 10:00 am, speaker at 10:30 am. Come early and meet your fellow members. Guests are always welcome.

Holocaust Memorial to Be Dedicated

at Fairfield University September 10

Sculpture entitled She Wouldn't Take Off Her Boots will be dedicated on Thursday, September 10 on the Fairfield University campus.

Fairfield County's first Holocaust memorial monument, She Wouldn't Take Off Her Boots, will be dedicated on Thursday, September 10 at its permanent home on the Fairfield University campus. The installation was made possible by Y's Man Paul Burger, with support from several fellow Y's Men.

The memorial will serve as a testament to the role public art can play in community life and be a lasting place of remembrance, reflection, education, and engagement for people across Connecticut and beyond.

Paul founded the nonprofit Shoah Memorial Fairfield, CT to ensure the Holocaust and its lessons are never forgotten. Research indicates that many younger people don't know what "Never Again" refers to. Some even think the Holocaust was a hoax, or that it didn't happen. As Elie Wiesel said, “If anything can, it is memory that will save humanity.”

A fundraising Gala will follow on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to support the sculpture's installation and an accompanying secondary-school curriculum on the Holocaust and genocide — material designed to meet Connecticut's mandate to teach this history in public schools.

The Gala: L'dor V'dor — "From Generation to Generation": Forging the Living Chain of Holocaust Remembrance will be at Il Palio Restaurant, Shelton, CT, October 13, 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Live and silent auction, with speakers including sculptor Victoria Milstein.

Tickets will be available soon. Click here to sign up for early access to tickets!

Van Canceled for Transport to American Classical Orchestra

Attendees of the American Classical Orchestra concert on Thursday, September 17 (see above listing) in New York had the choice of arranging their own transportation or using a 14-seat private van for the trip. Now it has been announced that there are not enough passengers to make the van economically feasible. The van needs to be filled in order to keep the cost reasonable.

The event will go forward with everyone arranging their own transportation to and from New York. For additional information, click on the link in the above listing or contact Mae Miller (wife of Y's Man Matt Miller) at bcloudsmiller@gmail.com.

This Evite From a Fellow Y's Man is Bogus;

Delete It and Do Not Respond

This evite from a fellow Y's Man should be deleted immediately.

An invitation to brunch and mimosas with a fellow Y's Man might sound tempting, but this is one invitation you will want to ignore. A spate of these evites from Y's Men to other Y's Men have circulated recently. They are fake and a vicious scam. Do not respond to the evite and immediately delete it from your email.

Any Interest in Tai Chi for Y's Men?

Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that was initially created for combat and self-defense. Over time it has been used by people of all age groups as a form of exercise and as a relaxation technique. It is practiced in set sequences that are sometimes referred to as 'meditation in motion'.

In China and elsewhere, it is often practiced outdoors, in parks or other public places. It does not require great strength, but is excellent for balance as well as psychological well-being.

Y’s Man Rob Grodman is looking for a leader to meet somewhere like Winslow Park, which would be convenient for members, and allow for as many people as would be interested to participate. If anyone has any leads to find someone who is proficient in Tai Chi, that would be appreciated. Contact Rob at westportagent@hotmail.com or 203-952-6117.
