I recently spoke with a Specialty Toy Store owner who told me that she has paid overall twice as much in credit card fees the last two years.

She works with TSYS, and was explaining the complexities of even understanding all the various charges she has.

When she finally did a deep dive into it at the beginning of 2024, she was frustrated that so much of her profit was being eaten up by these increased fees.

The question becomes where do you turn? How did you get someone to listen, and eventually get a resolution?

At TSYS, they have a CLIENT ADVOCATE. This retailer laid out the issues she was having, and the client advocate promised to do a rate review and give her a proposal.

A short time later, a proposal was given for 2024. Her rates dropped over 30% with AMEX, and a whopping 60% with Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.

This would not have happened unless she was proactive. This retailer was kind enough to reach out to me as she wants you to take a proactive stance as well. You may be able to save $10,000 or more simply by contacting your credit card processor as she did. "I have a huge problem with what you are charging me."

While she is pleased with the reduction, she is very frustrated that they've not responded to her request for a refund.

Her plans of action going forward? Every January, she will be contacting the Client Advocate to do a rate review.
