IS IT TOO EARLY TO GET READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
The holidays come same time every year. It’s not like they sneak up on us. But now, mid-October, is the time of year when people should start thinking about the upcoming holidays. It seems early since we haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet, but, it’s really not too early. From decorating and shopping to entertaining and gift wrapping, a little planning and organization can make all the difference. Now is the perfect time to start getting ready for the holidays.
This year, consider getting organized ahead of time so you can actually enjoy the holidays. Start early, create a plan and give yourself enough time so you're not overwhelmed when the holidays arrive. Being prepared, being organized doesn't happen by accident, it happens by preparation.
Here’s a few things you can do to get organized early on:
- Schedule time to get things done.
- Don't wait until you have time! Even 15–20 minutes of preparation a few times a week can prevent last-minute stress.
- Make a list of everyone you want to acknowledge both personally and professionally.
- Think about what you might want to get for those on the list
- Make sure that all of your contacts are updated so that if you are sending gifts or cards in the mail they arrive at the right address
- Go through your decorations and get rid of anything/everything that is broken or no longer suits your needs
- Check to see if you have the correct amount of gift wrap and cards
- If you’re planning on hosting guests, make sure that the guest room is a place where your guests will feel comfortable:
- Remove clutter
- Put a sign with the Wi-Fi password in that room (putting it in a picture frame is a nice and classy touch)
- Empty a drawer or make some room in the closet so that they can unpack a bit
- Make sure that there are fresh and clean towels in the bathroom
- Ask your guests if there is something that they usually eat or drink in the morning so that you can have it on hand
The holidays shouldn't leave you feeling exhausted before the celebrations even begin! The holidays shouldn't be about scrambling to get everything done at the last minute. The holidays should be about spending time with friends and family and making memories.
October is early enough that you can still choose to be proactive instead of reactive. The goal isn't to have everything done early, it's to avoid having to do everything at once! There’s no time like the present. Let’s go!
