This is From the Archives, where we present something from our extensive collection of archival photos, records and all manner of materials dating back to when the church was First Methodist Episcopal, to First Methodist, to Church of the Savior, to St. Paul's to Crossroads.
People who sang or rang bells for Bob Morrison, who was the organist and choir director in our church building for well over 40 years, will remember his wide array of hand-written notes and poster-size charts that he would often use for the music for the children's and youth choirs.
This week's archives item is one such musical page that Bob saved from the Easter season of 1971. Bob (or someone) hand typed and hand wrote this sheet for the children's choirs. The middle piece in green is very faded and hard to make out in the scan, but the piece in purple at the bottom is still very clear and easy to read.
And so your assignment over the coming few days is to learn this little piece at the bottom of the page about the Easter bells ringing. It is fairly easy to sing for tenors and sopranos, but perhaps basses and altos will have trouble ascending to the high G at the end (fill in your own harmony as you see fit).
But for younger/treble voices, this piece is mostly step-wise motion, and lies in a great range, so enjoy it and the high G at the end when you sing it. And you surely should sing it, as there will be random spot-testing of everyone who reads this in the coming weeks!. (Click to open in a new window.)
