PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Autumn 2018
Charlotte Benson (Jyoti Devi)
Dear ACVA Learners, Friends,
and
President's Letter - September 2018
Hello dear friends, and learners.
It seems like we are in a golden moment here - for a while. I'm so happy - I began writing to you under
a Bhadra yoga - thank you exalted Mercury! And now there is a lovely Malavya yoga going on -courtesy
of the setting swakshetra Venus.
The planets are visible, and in they're in dignity. I was doing some
planetary darshan this evening. Observing the planets through the dry air of the desert - the sight is
truly awe-inspiring. Please go outside after sunset this week and look for shimmering Venus in the
Western sky. Very close is giant Jupiter at the very end of the sign of Libra. Further to the east is the
faint, but distinctive, dull glow of Saturn. A little bit further is magnificent Mars. And then there is the
full Moon! Let's somehow make the best causes for ourselves, for future good effects, under this
current positive energy.
We have so much to be grateful for now. When I meet with my Jyotish clients, I often do a little backtesting
of their recent transit experiences. I wonder how some of you did with the exalted but
retrograde Mars, in July and August 2018?

Onward and upward,
Charlotte Benson (Jyoti Devi)

September 2018
Autumn in the northern hemisphere, Spring in the southern - what a wonderful wide world we inhabit!
In whatever way we define the next three months, there are some sweet planetary placements available for our creative use. Mars, Venus, and Mercury are all in dignity - at least until early October. Here is a brief golden moment to make our best efforts. As usual when planets are in dignity, there are many hours during every day of this season during whi
ch powerful, positive yogas are created. Mars creates Ruchaka yoga - great for taking bold actions. Venus creates Malavya yogas - great for creating alliances, and for creativity. And Mercury creates clever Bhadra yoga - good for useful ideas and figuring things out. There is real potential here to make positive causes to create positive effects.
Day and night are of equal length for the moment.

Introduction to Vedic Astrology with Charlotte Benson and A.T. Mann at the Rubin Museum
On Wednesday evening, August 15, 2018, at the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art in New York City, our very own ACVA President,
Charlotte Benson, gave an instructive, humorous, and thoroughly engaging presentation on Vedic Astrology to an enthusiastic audience of about 150 people. This fabulous, sold-out event was part of a five-part series "Astrology, Prophecy and Divination", which was curated by astrologer, artist, and author A.T. (Tad) Mann.
First, Charlotte and Tad conversed about the differences between Vedic and Western astrology, after which Charlotte explained the basics of Jyotisa in a very clear, easy-to-understand manner, which was enhanced by a beautifully illustrated power point presentation.

Jupiter Moves from Enemy's House to Home of a Friend - October 11, 2018
By Vachaspati Christina Collins
This quarter, Jupiter, the largest planet, will transit from Libra into Scorpio. Jupiter will be well placed in a friend's sign of Mars ruled Scorpio, it will be exalted in Cancer in the Navamsa, with its dispositor, the Moon, also exalted in Taurus in the 11th house from the Cancer placement. This at first glance appears very strong and positive. However, from all four Lagnas (Moon and Ascendant in both the Natal D1 and Navamsa D9 charts, Saturn is the natural benefic, while Jupiter will be challenging as ruler of bad houses, across the board). Strength initially will be strong, with Mars, the ruler of Scorpio still transiting exalted in Capricorn. Also, the transit originates on a Thursday, Jupiter's ruling day of the week in Vishaka. In addition, the Moon, while in the sign of Venus will be in Vishaka, a strong and good nakshatra of Jupiter changing signs in Jupiter dasa.

What is your favorite nakshatra?
Each Nakshatra has a singular shakti, which seems to evolve from the previous one so I'm hard pressed to choose one, but, to indulge you I kind of like to muse about Revati and the protective, sweet and caring embrace it grants us during our crossing from this journey to the next...
What was your first impression on discovering Jyotish?
For years I intuitively knew that my quest for the truth would inevitably take me through Vedic astrology (it was until much later that I came to learn the term Jyotish). It took me a long time to find a Vedic astrologer; but, when I had my chart read, some heaviness was lifted off my mind. Everything suddenly made perfect sense! The precision and accuracy were impressive! pressure I had felt was due to my having spent years trying to mold to the Western astrology view of my chart.
