Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with the Defense Department Acquisition Policy & Innovation (API) Directorate's search for a mature, web-based SaaS platform capable of integrating DoD-relevant datasets to support market research, supply chain risk assessments, and federal regulatory compliance.

In other data news, on September 12th , Breaking Defense published an article entitled Commerce ‘on track’ for version 1.0 of space tracking system, using DoD data. In this story, Theresa Hitchens describes the Commerce Department's preparation for the launch of the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCCS), a tracking platform for non-military satellite operators using DoD data. While the initial version will offer limited capabilities, TraCCS aims to evolve into a free collision warning service by 2025, promoting collaboration with commercial space situational awareness providers.

  • 'The plan is to integrate our SSA providers to get basic data out there that is free of charge to operators,' [Deputy Secretary Don] Graves said. 'We want to give that basic service, but make sure our commercial SSA providers are able to continue to innovate and beat the pants off of other companies in the world. … We are going to help drive the commercial marketplace by being an acquirer of data … to grow the industry significantly over the next couple of years.'”
