Showcasing the Coalition's efforts to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy

The Literacy Coalition gathered with PBC municipal leaders at the 16th Annual Mayors' Literacy Initiative Luncheon in partnership with the Palm Beach County League of Cities and sponsor Comcast to provide an update about literacy needs and efforts in our County and to introduce our 2023-24 Literacy AmeriCorps members, who took their oath of service at the event. The event kicked-off the Read for the Record campaign, which brings together millions of volunteers each year to read to children to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for children. We are proud to partner with our local sponsor PNC and their "Grow Up Great" initiative, municipal leaders and community volunteers.

Help A Child Learn to Read

The latest data from the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Testing shows that 52% of 3rd grade students in Palm Beach County are not reading on grade level. Want to help change this? Sign up to volunteer as a reading tutor. In partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County, we created the Building Better Readers program to address this issue. We are providing the program at 36 schools to-date and afterschool at our Blume Literacy Center in Boynton Beach. We provide the training, placement and support for volunteer tutors to make an impact as they work one-on-one with struggling readers.

Volunteer To Be A Reading Tutor

Read with Me!

Volunteer to read to a child and share a love of reading! The Literacy Coalition has selected books and created activities for volunteers and students to share together. No training required for this heartwarming experience scheduled on select Fridays throughout the year. Students get to take home the books and activities. Volunteers and sponsors are needed to support this effort.

Volunteer to Read with Me!

Welcome to our 2023-24 Literacy AmeriCorps team! Thank you to the members for dedicating a year to service in Palm Beach County to "get things done" as graduation coaches, reading tutors and mentors. Find out more about this full-time job and service opportunity.

October Opportunity to Give!

The Literacy Coalition is beneficiary of Panera Bread’s Operation Dough-Nation program during the month of October. This program allows customers to make monetary donations in boxes at the register in all 13 Panera Bread locations in Palm Beach County. Stop into a Panera location near you, enjoy a favorite meal or treat, and thanks, in advance, for your support of our nine programs and multiple initiatives helping children and adults gain essential literacy skills. Celebrating 10 Years of The Blume Literacy Center

We are still excited about our 10-year milestone of the Blume Literacy Center for Education, Training & Outreach on the Brenda & C.P. Medore Campus! The Literacy Coalition is thriving in this beautiful, 12,000 square foot Center, which allows us to further expand the education, training and outreach to the adults, children, youth and families we serve. It is a beacon for training and support, collaboration and celebration of reading. Thank you to the donors, board members, volunteers and staff who continue in their dedication in support of our mission to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy through the Blume Literacy Center and beyond.
