Blood Pressure Self Monitoring Program
YMCA's BPSM aids hypertension management with self-monitoring, consultations, nutrition seminars, and facility access for non-members. Registration for this program will close on June 30th. Program begins July 1st-November 1st.
With the support from a trained YMCA Healthy Heart Ambassador (HHA), participants:
- Measure and record their blood pressure at least two times per month.
- Attend personalized consultations.
- Attend Nutrition Education Seminars.
- Non-members: can use the facility during the 4-month program (limited hours - please see website for details)

Water Safety Event This July! | |
|
On Friday, July 26th, The Y is partnering with the Shaun & Reggie Livingston Foundation, the Peoria Park District and Easterseals of Central Illinois to provide a safe and affordable introduction to water safety this summer.
This event will engage youth serving organizations (Dream Center Peoria, Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service, and the George Washington Carver Community Center) and the youth they serve in their summer camp programs. Participants will be brought to the YMCA to engage in activities that will introduce them to valuable skills in pool and natural water safety, as well as proper rescue techniques for themselves or others.

Drowning is Preventable:
Through the Safety Around Water program, the Y helps prevent drowning. Two children die every day as a result of drowning. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4. It is the second leading cause of death for children ages 5 to 14. As an organization dedicated to creating safe spaces for all, the Y has an opportunity to make a difference.
Research has shown that participation in formal swimming instruction can prevent drowning. The Y is the nation’s leading provider of community-based swim lessons. With more than 1 million children receiving swim instruction annually, and with more than 2,600 locations in 10,000 communities, the Y is one of the few organizations in the country positioned to bridge the gap between the delivery of swim lessons and water safety education in the United States. We can help kids and families learn to be safe in and around water.

Join the Illinois State Dental Society Foundation for a FREE dental clinic on June 28th and June 29th at the Peoria Civic Center. Doors open at 8 am on both days, with priority entry for Veterans on Friday, June 28th. This event is available to anybody in need of care, regardless of their background or circumstances.
