SCIENCE RESEARCH PROGRAM STUDENTS SHINE AT FINAL PRESENTATIONS
Yesterday, the second-year students from Laguna's Science Research Program captivated and inspired a packed theatre as they showcased the culmination of their yearlong research projects. With the guidance of local mentors, twenty-one students delved deep into their chosen areas of study, offering a comprehensive exploration of diverse subjects. From the intricacies of traffic engineering to the boundless potential of nuclear energy, web development, quantum computing simulations, and the wonders of aerospace engineering, their range of topics was truly impressive. Following their presentations, the community had the privilege of engaging with the students directly. The young researchers proudly displayed their projects and provided in-depth answers to the audience's insightful questions. Congratulations to each of the following students for their dedication and commitment to their scientific inquiries.

OURLAGUNA YEARBOOK IS UNVEILED
The yearbook was distributed on the Hope Ranch campus on Wednesday, June 7. Themed OurLaguna, the book celebrates the 2022-23 school year, and is an interpretation of MyLaguna, which students and teachers interact with daily. This year's senior class dedicated OurLaguna to Spanish Teacher Arturo Flores, who is retiring after dedicating 18 years to Laguna Blanca. "He comes to campus each day with a smile to share and a song to sing," shared Molly Morouse '23. "Next year the quad will feel empty without his guitar ringing through it and the walk to his classroom will feel a little longer knowing he's not there waiting for us," added Emma Schubert '23.
Congratulations to the La Honda editors Sarah Woodhouse '24 and Chloe Gidney '25 (pictured below), and their team for creating this historical keepsake!

A CELEBRATORY ENDING AT THE LOWER SCHOOL CLOSING CEREMONY
What a lovely way to close the Lower School chapter of these fourth graders' academic careers and celebrate what's to come! This sweet class will surely be missed on the Lower School campus next year, but we look forward to seeing many of them on our Hope Ranch campus in the fall. Stay tuned for our upcoming Celebration Issue of Laguna Links for ceremony photos!

A VIBRANT LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
The Lower School wrapped up the school year in style on Wednesday with a vibrant and joyful summer send-off. Prior to the commencement of the Field Day events, every fourth grader took turns expressing their gratitude, sharing a treasured memory, and offering valuable advice to their younger peers. To culminate the heartfelt moments, they all joined in singing the uplifting song, "Sunroof," to their fellow schoolmates.
Following an afternoon of outdoor play and friendly competition, including relay races, prisoner ball, basketball shootouts, and more, Ms. Green and the entire Lower School community surprised Ms. Alldredge with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a thoughtfully compiled book filled with appreciations for her exceptional leadership throughout the year. Each student eagerly added their signature to the book, demonstrating their gratitude and respect for Ms. Alldredge.
What a happy ending to a school year of growth and joy!

SECOND GRADE PUBLISHES THEIR MASTERPIECES
Before spring break, Mrs. Vance’s Second Grade class embarked upon an exciting project where they transformed the classroom into a publishing company. As busy members of the "Lucky Laguna Owls Publishing Company," young authors and illustrators signed contracts, created storyboards, and used the writing process to turn rough drafts into masterpieces and blank pages into brilliant illustrations. Upon completion, the class enjoyed a special celebration where they read their original storybooks to the delight of family and friends at the Second Grade Publishing Party. What an achievement!

KEEPING A GUIDE TO ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION BEFORE SUMMER BREAK
Ah, summer break: a time for teens to recharge and decompress after a grueling school year. But with this long-awaited downtime comes a newfound sense of freedom that can prove risky for young people on the cusp of adulthood. Studies show that June and July show the highest rates of first-time use of alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine among teenagers. No school, no homework, no sports, no structure – without the day-to-day routine of school, parents should take steps to revisit their expectations around alcohol and other drugs with their kids before summer break kicks off.
