Local organizations, including Center for Population Health, have been working together to address high lead levels in pediatric patients in Cambria and Somerset counties.
Education is key to prevention and mitigation of high lead levels.
Lead is very toxic. People are exposed to lead through deteriorating paint, dust, air, and contaminated soil and can be found in windows, floors or steps, carpet, rugs, floor mats, furniture, radiators, grates, registers, porches, soil, and sandboxes.
Frequent and thorough cleaning and maintenance is essential as well as parents and guardians paying close attention to what children put into their mouths. Children should also have their blood level tested as often as your doctor or clinic recommends.
