MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH

As temperatures get warmer, we start to see more and more motorcycles on the road. This month serves as a reminder that Motorcyclist Safety is Everyone’s Safety. Motorists and motorcyclists need to be vigilant and take proper precautions to keep the roads safe. A few tips to help prevent accidents are to keep a safe distance between you and a motorcyclist, make sure to check blind spots before changing lanes, and always assume motorcyclists are closer than they look.

BASIC RIDERS COURSE

One of the best ways to ride safely is through training. The St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department offers a Basic Rider Course designed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, ideal for both beginner and experienced riders. This two-day course covers everything from basic controls to accident avoidance maneuvers. Plus, completing it waives the driving and written tests for a Missouri motorcycle license!

  • Carry your cell phone or have a buddy join you while exercising in the parks.
  • Speed limit in ALL parks is 15 mph, be vigilant and watch for pedestrians.
  • Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and owners are responsible for removing pet waste.
  • No motorized vehicles, including golf carts, on trails, sidewalks or grass.
  • Please be sure all fires within a barbecue pit are extinguished prior to leaving.
  • Please be courteous to other park visitors by picking up your litter and avoiding disruptive behavior.
  • Keeping your cell phone close can not only save your life in an emergency but also aid in saving the lives of others.
