Meet Logan

A Journey of Progress and Growth: How Logan Thrived at Parc Center for Disabilities

Five-year-old Logan’s journey took a transformative turn when he joined Parc’s Family Focus program under the care of early intervention teacher Kristie. (Both pictured here)

Logan’s mother, who had been concerned about his speech delays and ongoing ear issues that required tubes, along with the removal of his tonsils and adenoids, hadn’t realized the full extent of his developmental needs until they met Kristie. Over the past year and a half, with Kristie’s unwavering support, Logan’s speech and fine motor skills blossomed in ways they never imagined possible. Logan found joy in Kristie’s engaging activities, which cleverly combined learning with play, making each session something he eagerly anticipated. His mother watched in awe as her little boy made leaps and bounds, proudly sharing, “Logan has flourished under your care, and his speech has improved so much.” Kristie’s personalized approach, complete with thoughtful notes and cherished pictures, revealed the depth of her dedication to Logan’s success. Through Kristie’s guidance, Logan’s family learned how to better support him at home, turning challenges into triumphs.

Today, Logan stands ready for kindergarten, beaming with confidence and excitement for the future. His mother’s heartfelt words say it all: “We cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for Logan. This program has truly been a godsend for our family.

Meet Ricky

Who Knew Kindness Could Strike So Bright?

At 37, Ricky faced overwhelming challenges. Living with an intellectual disability and managing insulin-dependent diabetes, he struggled deeply after losing his mother, his primary caregiver. Alone in a neglectful environment, Ricky endured mistreatment, losing his independence, dignity, and hope. On the brink of homelessness, his future seemed bleak.

Parc Center for Disabilities became Ricky’s lifeline. Working with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Parc secured Medicaid Waiver support and placed him on the crisis waitlist. In April 2023, Ricky joined the Parc family, finding safety, care, and a supportive community at Curry Villa and Parc’s Adult Day Program. His life began to change from that first day.

In just 16 months, Ricky has transformed. He’s gained essential life skills, and his depression and anxiety have eased. Now working 20 hours a week, earning his own paycheck, and engaging in community events, Ricky has rediscovered his confidence and independence. One of these moments shined at the Strike for Parc event when Ricky noticed Cynthia from St. Pete Young Professionals struggling to find the right ball. He offered her his own Tampa Bay Buccaneers-themed bowling ball, and Cynthia, delighted, bowled with joy, hitting pins along the way. It’s these unexpected acts of kindness that reflect Ricky’s spirit and the supportive community that surrounds him.

Ricky’s journey is a powerful testament to Parc’s impact. It’s a story of resilience, love, and the incredible transformation that happens when someone is seen, included, and empowered to thrive. Today, Ricky faces the future with newfound purpose, proving that with the right support, every individual can shine.

Bringing Abilities Together:

Parc Gives Back to Make a Difference

In the heart of our community, “Parc Gives Back” brings compassion and connection to life each month. What began as a visit from SPCA Tampa Bay, accompanied by a lovable dog and a gentle bunny, has blossomed into a cherished tradition. This partnership allows individuals with disabilities at Parc to give back, showing that everyone, regardless of abilities, has something valuable to offer.

Each month, Parc participants joyfully craft enrichment tubes for cats, bunnies, and guinea pigs at the SPCA shelter—more than toys, they are gifts of love that comfort the animals as they await their forever homes. Parc participants also deliver these creations to the SPCA and often lend a hand at pet drives, packaging and distributing pet food to ensure animals in need are cared for.

This partnership has created a beautiful sense of joy and purpose. Watching Parc participants give back to their furry friends and their community reminds us that the spirit of kindness knows no bounds. “Parc Gives Back” celebrates the unique abilities of individuals with disabilities, highlighting the value they bring to our community and the lives they touch.
