From the Pastor:
My Sweet Home Family, “This is the Lord’s doing, and it’s marvelous in my sight!” I can’t begin to find a proper and fitting way to express to you my appreciation for your continued support, prayers, friendship, followship, and fellowship for the last seventeen years. On the first Sunday, we will be climaxing our Pastoral Anniversary Celebration, giving God praise for His grace, goodness, and faithfulness to us, IN SPITE OF US!
Last week, we kicked off our second year of being a site for the Northwest Indiana Summer Learning Labs (6/25 – 7/23). On the 3rd Sunday (7/20), we will be celebrating our Men’s Day with Pastor Brian A. Clayborn. Vacation Bible School begins 7/28 and will conclude on 8/1 here at The Home. The Lord continues to bless us BEYOND MEASURE, and I’m glad about it!

Member Spotlight:
Sis. Cathy Belyeu
The Member Spotlight for the month of July is Sis. Cathy Belyeu! We look forward to seeing her smiling face on Sunday mornings, clothed in the prettiest dresses to match her beautiful personality. Sis. Cathy is so humble and soft-spoken, but we know she is a strong woman of God, having raised 5 children, with 12 grandchildren and some greatgrandchildren, too!
When asked about her favorite scripture, she took a pause. "I really don't have a favorite scripture. It depends on what I am going through at the time, or what may be going on around me. If I am in need of anything, I go to Philippians 4:19 and Psalm 23."
Sis. Cathy was born and raised in Riverside, Alabama. She moved to Gary as a teenager and lived with her aunt and helped out with her nieces, one being one of our members, Debra Fomby-Hunt. She graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1962 and worked at Glen Park Cleaners for 30 years. She has always been dedicated to her children and grandchildren and made herself available to volunteer at their schools when needed.
As far as her Christian stewardship, Sis. Cathy has been a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and an usher. She is known for her special lemonade and delicious homemade ice cream! YUM! According to her daughter, Sis. Mack, she is very creative, turning nothing into something useful.
"At my age now," Sis. Cathy begins to reflect, "I look back at times when I didn't know what to do or how I would make it. That's why I love that poem, Footprints. I keep it on the wall in my home to keep my faith in check."
As a point of encouragement, Sis. Cathy goes to James 1:2-3. Then she goes to her "old standby" gospel music tunes! We get it, Sis. Cathy! That music along with your strong faith will make it through anything!

Ministry Highlight
The Ministry Highlighted for the month of June is the Men’s Ministry of Sweet Home. We thank God for Revs. Johnny Henderson and Reginald Paige, Min. Terrell Martin, Deacons Greg McCloud, John Jamerson, and John Moore, brothers, Auther Thompson, Richard Mack, Rodney Allen, Rodney Pugh, Ray Taylor, and Joshua Henderson.
We expect to see the continued growth and maturity in your lives as a result of your commitment to serving God through serving His people!

"Trouble Won't Last Always"
On the hottest day in July, it seems impossible to remember what it feels like to be cool again. On the coldest day in December, it seems like it’ll be an eternity before you get to see another warm day. When you catch a cold and can’t breathe through your nose, it feels like you’ll be congested for the rest of your life. Despite how it may feel in the moment, have you ever noticed that none of those things that irritate or frustrate us last forever? The Bible reminds us multiple times that trouble won’t last always. In John 16:33, Jesus proclaims, “In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." In Psalm 30:5, we are reminded that “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Every hardship that has a beginning also has an end, and while we don’t get to dictate the timing of either, we are in charge of how we respond to the ups and downs of life. For every problem, the Bible has a solution. For every uncertainty, the Bible has some assurance. Use your resources and remember that trouble won’t last always.
