November Meeting

"Meet our Members: Pioneering Women Among Us"

Tuesday, November 12, 5:30-6:00--refreshments;

6:00-7:30 p.m--program/ business meeting

New location! Conference room of the County Services Building located at 14485 Northland Drive, Big Rapids (by Pizza Hut)

The speaker engaged for a presentation on the importance of matriarchy in Native American culture asked to reschedule to a later date since she just served two weeks of jury duty and had to reschedule another event to the night of November 12. We look forward to hearing from her in the spring. Please let Deb Kennedy know if you would be interested in helping to plan that program. Marilyn Jablonski has suggested that we ask some of our own members to speak on their own career and leadership journeys since we have some rock stars among us. "Herstory" matters, and we should know the stories of our own members!

We have confirmed that two members will speak briefly about their careers in traditionally male professions, and we hope to confirm one or two others. Susan Grant will tell us about her experience as the first woman attorney and judge in Mecosta County, and Mary Loesch will recount her career as an anthropologist.

If you previously told Deb that you would bring refreshments (or even if you didn't and would like to help), please contact her to let her know what you plan to bring.

Annual Holiday Meeting and

Celebration of Scholarship Recipients

Please mark Saturday, December 7 on your calendar for our annual Holiday Meeting and celebration of our scholarship recipients. This year's gathering will be a brunch at Pere Marquette Bistro and Catering in Reed City. We are currently waiting on menu options from Pere Marquette to present to everyone next month.

In addition to our scholarship recipients, Elaine Cox will be a special guest. Many of you know Elaine, but did you know that she was an AAUW scholarship recipient in the 1980s? Elaine will speak briefly about how her scholarship helped her complete her degree and launch her career.
