Village offices will be closed on Monday, September 1 for Labor Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, September 2 at 9:00 a.m. Due to the holiday, refuse pick-up for all three sections of the Village will be delayed one day. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Garbage Can Reminders

The Village would like to remind residents that garbage and recycling cans should not be put on the curb before 6:00 p.m. on the day prior to pickup, and should be removed from the parkway no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day following pickup. Garbage and recycling cans should be placed on the parkway curb, not in the street, and after pickup, cans should be stored so that they cannot be viewed from the public street. Thank you for your cooperation!

Brush Collection Next Week

The next round of the Village's brush collection program is next week (week of September 1). Pickup will begin in the center section of the Village, then move east and finish up on the west side. Public Works put together a video of helpful brush collection tips for residents - check it out before you set out your brush next week! As in past months, residents can track brush pickup progress in real-time at this link. For any other questions about the Brush Collection Program, please visit the Village's webpage.

Alternatively, forms can be mailed, dropped off at the payment box outside Village Hall, or you can purchase in person during business hours. New residents should visit Village Hall or the Village’s website to complete a new application. Green Electric Aggregation Program: Notices to Some Residents

Some Village ratepayers received a Green Electric Aggregation program notice mailed to their ComEd billing address in mid-August. Most residents received no new notice; their electric account will remain unchanged as the Village enters year two of a three-year program. New residents who have not opted out of the current program will receive a notice, informing them that they may be enrolled with MC Squared Energy Services (MC2). Note: some ratepayers currently enrolled with MC2 will receive notice of their account moving back to ComEd in October. They will continue to pay the same ComEd tariff rate, will still have portions of their consumption offset by RECs and are considered a part of the program. For more information including a Q&A about aggregation, please visit the Village's website.

Cross-Connection and Water Backflow Survey

The Village’s contractor, Backflow Solutions, Inc. (BSI), is managing our state-mandated cross-connection control program. A cross-connection is any link, either temporary or permanent, between the potable (drinking) water supply and another source that could contain non-potable (not safe for drinking) substances. This connection allows the possibility of backflow, where non-potable water or other substances can contaminate the safe drinking water supply, posing serious health risks. Examples of cross-connections include:

  1. Temporary: A garden hose submerged in a bucket of soapy water or a pool.
  2.  Permanent: A connection between the potable water line and a boiler in a heating system or an irrigation system.

To prevent backflow, the cross-connection control program identifies and monitors these connections to ensure the safety of the drinking water supply. As part of this effort, BSI is mailing postcards to all homeowners and businesses with a QR code linking to a short required survey. Residents can also visit https://bsionline.com/lgp/ to complete the survey. For questions about this program, please reach out to Gary Moore, Water Operator for the Village at 708-352-2922.

Notice of Public Hearing: Zoning Variation

On Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m., a public hearing will be held before the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider an application for a variation on property located at 937 Barnsdale Road. The applicant, Concordia Wireless, as an authorized agent of T-Mobile Central, LLC, is requesting a variation from Section 153.193(C) (Accessory Structures and Uses) of the La Grange Park Municipal Code to allow a generator to be located in the front yard in order to provide backup power to an existing wireless communications facility. The application and all plans, specifications, and other documents submitted with the application are available for examination during regular office hours at Village Hall and will be posted to the Village’s online Agenda Center one week prior to the meeting.

Notice of Public Hearing: Zoning Map Amendment & Variation

On Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m., a public hearing will be held before the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider applications for zoning relief (map amendment and variation) relative to the properties located at 1024 Newberry Avenue and 1029 North Beach Avenue. The Village of La Grange Park is the applicant and the owner of the subject properties. The applicant is requesting Village approval for (1) the rezoning of the 1024 Newberry Avenue property from the R-1 Single-Family Residential Zoning District to the I Institutional Zoning District; and (2) a 5,000 square foot variation from the minimum lot area regulations of Table 10-2 (Special Purpose Zoning Districts Bulk and Setback Regulation) of Section 153.162 (Bulk And Setback Regulations) of Title XV (Land Usage) of the La Grange Park Zoning Code that will apply to the subject properties upon Village approval of a plat of consolidation. The applications are available for examination during regular office hours at Village Hall and will be posted to the Village’s online Agenda Center one week prior to the meeting.

La Grange Road Traffic Safety Improvements – Phase I Update

The Village’s Phase I Preliminary Engineering Study for traffic safety improvements along La Grange Road, led by consultant Kimley-Horn, is underway. This effort stems from community feedback during the Village Market Streetscape Improvement Plan, where residents expressed strong interest in enhancing pedestrian safety with an additional pedestrian crossing or signaled crossing. Public input for the Phase I study was first received in April and again through an online survey in May. The Study is in its early stages, focusing on collecting traffic volumes, crash data, and pedestrian counts at Woodlawn and Oak Avenue. Using this information, Kimley-Horn is developing potential technical concepts for IDOT’s response, which will provide the Village with direction on what options are available as it considers how to move forward with the Phase I plan. It is critical that the Village first understand what IDOT will and will not support before bringing potential options back to the community for further input. The public will have another opportunity to share feedback before the Phase I Study is complete.

Hydrant Flushing

Next week, Public Works will flush fire hydrants beginning at Beach Avenue and 31st Street working towards Maple Avenue. Hydrant flushing is very important to maintain quality water distribution and testing. Some discoloration may appear while the flushing is happening but should clear up after the water runs for a few minutes. Hydrant flushing signs are posted in the area where work is currently happening. For more information please visit the Hydrant Flushing page on the Village's website or call Public Works at 708-352-2922.

Hydrant Sandblasting and Painting Project Update

GO Painters (the Village's contractor) completed sandblasting and priming hydrants in the center and west sections of the Village. This past week, they began applying the first of two red coats of paint on hydrants on Edgewood Avenue and will move east towards Barnsdale Road. See this map for locations. This is the first of a two-year hydrant maintenance plan. This essential preventative maintenance program helps protect the hydrants from corrosion caused by road salt and weather, ensuring their longevity and proper function when needed most. The work is expected to last approximately two weeks, depending on the weather. If you have questions, please contact the Public Works at 708-352-2922.

Salt Creek Sewer Rehabilitation Project

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) began the Salt Creek Sewer Rehabilitation Project in La Grange Park to maintain and improve MWRD sewers within the Village. This project, carried out by Inliner Solutions, will include sewer cleaning, televising, lining and installation of sewer structures. The project will begin in the Salt Creek Woods Nature Preserve (behind Bethlehem Woods/Nazareth Complex) and will continue along the 700 to 800 blocks of Brainard Avenue, and on Jackson Avenue from Brainard to Kemman Avenue. Residents can expect traffic delays with lane re-direction on Northbound Brainard Avenue and Eastbound Jackson Avenue while work is in progress. Please visit the project website for more information and construction updates. For any questions, please contact Public Works at 708-352-2922.

The Village tests for lead and copper, and all samples have passed those tests.
