Milan Choi brings warmth, energy, and a sense of purpose to every class she
teaches at ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center. A senior missionary of over 15
years and a pastor’s wife, Milan lives her life guided by a simple philosophy: “Whoever
needs me, I go to them.” This philosophy has shaped a lifetime of service to others,
traveling across nine countries to support and educate women, building community
through movement, and now uplifting older adults through joyful, engaging programs.
Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, Milan immigrated to the United States at the
age of 18 and has now spent over 50 years building her life here. Her young adult life
was marked by academic achievement and community leadership, including creating a
college orientation booklet in Korean to help other Korean-speaking students feel
welcomed and supported in their educational journey. Later on, her work as a
missionary focused on empowering women facing hardship, using education and
movement to help them reconnect with their strength and autonomy.
In 2015, Milan became the President of the Southern California Korean
Methodist Church and also began developing programming for senior centers
throughout the San Fernando Valley. Through this work, Milan met Jenna Hauss,
President and CEO of ONEgeneration, in 2021, and she has been involved with
ONEgeneration ever since. With over a decade of experience working with older adults,
Milan understands how to meet participants where they are, helping them stay active,
reduce stress, and have fun together.
Milan has become a beloved instructor at OSEC, leading two weekly classes: Stress Exercise and Line Dance on Thursdays, a blend of seated movement, Tai Chi, and yoga, and Advanced Line Dancing on Fridays. Between her involvement at OSEC and the Korean Senior Citizen Association in Northridge, Milan currently teaches five classes grounded in movement, dance, and music. She also leads a dance class at OSEC over the summer that serves as a culmination of the movement and dance classes she teaches throughout the year. This class ends with a beautiful annual performance at the end of August.
For Milan, connection is at the heart of everything she does. She believes that life is short, and she encourages others to create their own happiness by participating in life and practicing positive thinking. Her faith guides her through her life, finding strength in knowing that she is never alone in her journey.
Come join Milan’s Stress Exercise and Line Dance class every Thursday from 9:30-11:15am and Advanced Line Dancing every Friday from 9:30-11:15am!

From Housing Insecurity to a Place to Call Home: Ira’s Success Story!
At ONEgeneration, we believe every older adult deserves the opportunity to age with dignity, stability, and independence.
Meet Ira, an older adult who was on the brink of losing his longtime residence as rising housing costs made it increasingly difficult to afford rent on his limited Social Security income.
Through ONEgeneration’s innovative LA ADU Accelerator Program a partnership with Los Angeles Housing Department, Ira became the first older adult to move into a local Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), made possible through a dedicated community homeowner. This temporary housing solution provided Ira with a safe, stable place to live while working closely with his dedicated Housing Navigator to secure permanent affordable housing. During this transition, Ira also remained connected to ONEgeneration’s comprehensive community-based programs and services, supporting his health, well-being, and independence.
Today, we are thrilled to share that Ira has officially secured permanent affordable senior housing! Ira’s journey demonstrates the power of innovative, preventative solutions to older adult homelessness. By providing stable transitional housing, personalized navigation, and access to essential supportive services, we can help vulnerable older adults avoid homelessness while maintaining their dignity, quality of life, and connection to their community.
We are incredibly proud of Ira and grateful to our dedicated housing team and community partners who helped make the success of Ira’s story, and many others possible!
Because preventing homelessness isn't just about finding housing—it's about preserving dignity, independence, and hope.

Grandparents As Parents Program
Our GAP/CFRC Pumpkins & Family Fun events brought families together in Santa Clarita, Lancaster, and Van Nuys for three fun-filled gatherings of creativity, laughter, and connection! Children and families decorated their own pumpkins, enjoyed spending time together, and every child went home with a special Halloween candy treat bag! We were especially excited to welcome new families to our events and introduce them to the supportive community that makes GAP so special. A big thank you to our community partners Penny Lane Centers and everyone who joined us and helped make these gatherings a success.
Creating memories, building connections, and strengthening families that's what GAP is all about!

Intergenerational Daycare Center
One of the highlights of Halloween season is our annual preschool costume parade through our Adult Daycare Program. See photos below from this year's celebration!
| | Intergenerational Daycare Center | | Throughout October, our Intergenerational Program continued to bring different generations together through meaningful interactions and shared experiences. The children and older adults have shared smiles, conversations about fall and Halloween, and plenty of opportunities to learn from one another. Together, they enjoyed activities such as pumpkin painting, fall leaf collages, pumpkin size sorting, cooking, and an alphabet letter hunt. They also participated in a special TLC music performance, where everyone joined in the fun by singing along, clapping their hands, and enjoying the different tunes and rhythms. | | Encino Farmers Market - Sundays 8am - 1pm | | |
The ONEgeneration Encino Farmers Market is an excellent way for everyone in the family to spend time together on a Sunday. Open year-round, over 30 farmers from all over Central and Southern California, over 25 food vendors, and over 10 crafters participate, with donations and a portion of the proceeds each week going towards supporting ONEgeneration’s community programs and services. The market is open every Sunday from 8am to 1 pm. Plenty of free parking at 17400 Victory Blvd. (between White Oak and Balboa).
Shop for unique gifts at our Holiday Boutique on Sunday December 6th at the market. There will be new vendors joining us with great gift items for yourself or someone else! Know a craft or holiday vendor that might be interested? Email farmersmarket@onegeneration.org for information.

Brace for Big 2027 Medicare Changes - And Watch Your Inbox
Shifting drug subsidies and digital notices could create a perfect storm for enrollees
| | |
This could be one of the most tumultuous open enrollment periods in Medicare history. Temporary federal subsidies are ending Jan. 1, 2027, leading to steep premium hikes, carriers scaling back or outright leaving the marketplace and shrinking drug formularies.
That volatility makes it critical that you review your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) for upcoming modifications to your coverage, premiums, and drug lists. Federal rules require carriers to deliver these updates by late September, giving you two weeks to look at all the changes before the Annual Open Enrollment Period runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.
You also need to watch out for any letters sent to you making changes in how some of your drugs are covered. Drugs could be dropped, changed in tier (price), or have new restrictions.
However, a dramatic shift in how insurance companies communicate is creating a dangerous blind spot. Millions of beneficiaries who opted into electronic delivery are now receiving these updates via email. In crowded inboxes, messages with subject lines like "Important Account Update" often end up buried, ignored, or routed straight to spam folders.
With the sweeping statutory and market shifts expected for 2027, missing these notifications could leave you locked into an overpriced or inappropriate health plan for an entire calendar year.
Part D prescription drug plans: Subsidy expirations and price pressures
The Inflation Reduction Act introduced major changes to Medicare Part D, including capping out-of-pocket prescription drug spending. To cushion insurance carriers from sudden financial shocks, federal regulators temporarily introduced the Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration program.
Those temporary federal subsidies officially end on Jan. 1, 2027. As a result, standalone Part D prescription drug plans face severe financial restructuring. For 2027, enrollees should prepare for:
● Substantial premium increases: Monthly costs for standalone drug coverage are expected to rise significantly across multiple carriers.
● Fewer market options: Carriers are consolidating or eliminating plans entirely. For instance, SilverScript has already announced a reduction in its plan offerings.
-
Search your email archives: Query your inbox for your plan provider’s name alongside terms like "Annual Notice," "Plan Changes," “ANOC” or "2027 Coverage." Be sure to check your Junk, Spam and Promotions tabs.
-
Access your online member portal: Federal regulations require insurers to host all required annual documents on their online portals. Log into your account and check the "Documents" or "Message Center" tab for downloadable PDFs.
-
Request a physical paper copy: You have the legal right to opt out of electronic delivery at any time. Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and request that hard copies of your 2027 ANOC be mailed to your home. Federal rules require plans to dispatch requested paper materials within three business days.
Medicare Supplement plans: Stability at a premium
While Medicare Advantage and Part D plans face heavy volatility, Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies continue to offer unmatched access to care. Medigap plans allow enrollees to see any provider or visit any hospital in the country that accepts Original Medicare without network restrictions or prior authorization hassles.
However, Medigap plans have experienced double-digit premium increases for three consecutive years. Despite rising rates, they remain the gold standard for comprehensive coverage.
In California, beneficiaries have a powerful tool called the Birthday Rule. Every year, during the 60 days following your birthday, California law allows you to switch to another Medigap policy of equal or lesser coverage without medical underwriting — meaning insurance companies cannot deny you coverage or raise your rates due to pre-existing conditions.

Introducing a New Early-Stage Alzheimer's
Social Engagement & Respite Program
| | |
ONEgeneration is proud to announce the launch of an innovative new program designed specifically for individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss and those newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Made possible through a grant from the Alzheimer's Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI), this specialized pilot program addresses a critical gap in dementia care by providing meaningful support during the earliest stages of the journey.
Hosted within our Adult Daycare Center in a dedicated, welcoming space, the program is designed to help participants maintain social connections, purpose, independence, and quality of life. Grounded in memory café principles, the program offers a stigma-free environment where individuals can connect with peers, engage in enriching activities, and continue pursuing meaningful experiences.
Participants will enjoy enhanced therapeutic programming, including Art Therapy, Music and Movement, technology-based activities, engaging discussion groups, and ONEgeneration's signature intergenerational experiences that foster connection across generations.
If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia and are looking for a supportive, engaging community, we invite you to learn more.
For information or to enroll, please contact ONEgeneration Adult Daycare at (818) 708-6625 or email adultdaycare@onegeneration.org. We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting new program!

Are your heating and cooling bills higher than you’d like?
TECH Clean California has released new rebates for heat pump heating and A/C systems. If you live in the following communities you can apply for the rebates this year: Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Northridge, Chatsworth, North Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda, Winnetka, West Hills, Van Nuys, and Lake Balboa.
ONEgeneration can help you understand this program and apply for these rebates. Call or email our Environmental Projects Manager, Juana Torres: 818-708-6603/ jtorres@onegeneration.org
What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is an all-in-one system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Instead of making heat, it moves heat — which uses less energy and can lower your utility bills.
Good news! (see flyer below)
