College and Career Fair connected more than

300 students with resources and recruiters

High school students and their families from across southwest Missouri gathered to explore post-graduation options.

Springfield Public Schools hosted its annual College and Career Fair on Oct. 6, providing students the opportunity to connect with more than 40 universities, community colleges and trade schools, recruiters from the U.S. military branches and several high-demand employers.

“We host the College and Career Fair because every student deserves the opportunity to explore what is possible for their future,” said Dr. Alison Roffers, SPS director of counseling services. “By bringing colleges, employers, military representatives, and career training programs together in one place, we remove barriers and provide access to information, resources, and meaningful connections. Our goal isn't for students to have their futures figured out, but to help them discover opportunities they may not have known existed.”

I Choose SPS: Tamara Jackson, Watkins Special Education Teacher

"I chose SPS because I’ve always heard great things about the special education department and I had those great experiences during my tutoring experiences and again while student teaching. I knew SPS does what is best for kids and puts kids’ needs first — I wanted to be a part of that. I worked in functional skills at a junior high in another district for 15 years, but moving to SPS four years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made in my career by far.

Now I teach K-5 cross category, and I love getting to be a part of a team that genuinely cares about kids and their progress. I love teaching elementary students and getting to impact these little minds for life. Again, it’s the best decision I ever made.”
