Supporting Children Who Are Grieving

Grief can feel isolating and overwhelming, especially during childhood. Rooted: Grieving and Growing Together is a safe place where children and teens can express their grief and connect with other youth who are grieving. The free program, formerly known as The Landing, is designed for youth aged 6-18 years old who have had a family member or someone close to them die.

Rooted peer support drop-in sessions are now available on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Heartwood House, located at 2136 State Route 20, Sedro-Woolley. Youth have the option to take part in discussions, play, art, learning, and other age-appropriate activities for expressing grief in a supportive environment with trained staff and volunteers. Accompanying adults can also meet during drop-in sessions (optional). Let us know if you’d like to attend a drop-in session by completing this pre-registration form.

Read the article "Eight Tips For Talking With Your Kids About Death" from Greater Good Magazine for healthy ways to discuss this topic with children.

Quacks Of Kindness

Did you spot any rubber ducks in the Burlington-Edison area last week? Burlington Healthy Community Coalition hid 100 ducks throughout the community, including at local businesses and organizations, as part of a Random Acts of Kindness Week campaign!! Each duck features a QR code linking to ideas for spreading kindness in big and small ways. Anyone who found a duck could choose to keep or re-hide it, so keep your eyes peeled as you’re out and about.

Moves For A Healthy Heart

The facts are clear: Regular physical activity benefits people who have heart disease as well as those who don't. Any type of physical activity is good if it makes your muscles work more than usual - the heart is a muscle and benefits from a workout just like other muscles in your body! February marks National Heart Health month, a perfect time to take your next step toward moving more and feeling better today, while supporting your long-term cardiac health.

With Exercise Physiologists on staff, United Fitness Center can help you find safe ways to exercise and build strength, flexibility, and overall wellbeing. Our New Year’s membership promotion continues through March 31. Give us a call at 360-854-0247 or visit the United Fitness Center website to get started today!

Community-Owned and Community-Focused

We are one of 56 public hospital districts in Washington State. Like a school board or fire district, hospital districts are created and supported by the community to serve the community. At United General District 304, we maintain ownership of the hospital while PeaceHealth provides and oversees all medical services. More than operating as a landlord, we collaborate with PeaceHealth to meet the broader health needs of the community through our 50+ programs and services.

If you haven’t already, take a look at our 2024 Impact Report to see how we’re working to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Skagit County and beyond!

We’ve made it easy for anyone to join in our work of Building Healthier Communities. Visit our new webpage: Get Involved

It’s easy and free to support the work of United General District 304 just by shopping at Fred Meyer with your rewards card!
