EDAR Winter Party-Assembly | |
All PhD Students, Supervisors and Co-Supervisors are warmly invited to attend the annual EDAR Winter Party-Assembly on December 3, 18:00-20:00, which will be held in the exhibit room of the Archizoom.
Organised by EDAR Direction together with QUATRE, the PhD students' representative collective, the Winter Party-Assembly is a festive event during which various information and announcements will be shared and the EDAR Thesis Distinction 2024 will be awarded. The Assembly will be followed by a friendly and warm apéro.

AR-682 – CITATION POLITICS | |
The Laboratory of Research and Development for Innovation on Architecture, Urban Design and Territory (RIOT) will hold the doctoral seminar on November 19-20, entitled Citation Politics. The complex dynamics and power structures inherent in academic referencing practices are increasingly recognised as a crucial aspect of scholarly discourse in architecture. This two-day doctoral seminar delves into the multifaceted realm of citation politics, examining its intersections with artificial intelligence (AI), inclusion concerns, and non-orthodox materials, from conversations in the field to YouTube and TikTok videos.
The seminar will be chaired by Charlotte Malterre-Barthes, Summer Islam, and Elif Erez (RIOT), with the participation of Khensani Jurczok-de Klerk (ETHZ), Katie Lloyd Thomas (Newcastle University), and Claire Benn (University of Cambridge). For detailed information, please follow the link.

Why Bother with Construction? – Lecture by Paolo Tombesi

The public lecture series Mud on the Floor. Dirty Realities in Scholarly Work continues with a talk by Paolo Tombesi (FAR). Entitled Why Bother with Construction? A Taxonomy of Scholarly Utilities, it will address the issue of actual construction processes, which currently does not enjoy much currency within architectural academia. It will further reflect on how construction knowledge can infuse architectural debate, from design theory to historical exegesis, and environmental analysis to social values. The EPFL Research and Doctoral Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in the Forum Rolex from 17:00. This celebration provides an opportunity for PhD graduates to gather with their fellows, faculty members, friends, and family to commemorate their achievements. EPFL will present the Research and Doctorate Awards to the laureates in recognition of their outstanding research work.

National Superior School of Architecture of Lyon (ENSAL), University of Tours, and the Council for Architecture, Urbanism, and Environment (CAUE) of Indre announce the conference entitled The Nearness of Architecture: To Build for the Local Community, which will be held on April 1-2, 2025 in Châteauroux. The conference addresses the debate around metropolisation in the field of architecture and the emergence of a new 'architecture of nearness,' against a backdrop of renewed interest in rurality. It invites contributions on the modalities and challenges of nearness in the design of architectural and urban spaces over the long term (18th-21st centuries). The ARQ journal announces a call for papers for its new issue, entitled American Territories. The issue addresses the idea of territory as a hinge – between human communities and their non-human environments – to explore America's diverse social and geographical conditions, marked by tensions between spatial isolation and social or economic interdependence.
