Upcoming Lane Closures

Along Eastbound I-10

Pictured: Concrete batch plants supply our crews with well-mixed and consistent concrete to use in our pavement operations. Along with improving efficiency for projects with large concrete needs, these batch plants also allow for the recycling of unused concrete, reducing waste!

Upcoming Activity

Starting Monday, July 29 through Friday, August 2, 2024 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly single lane closures are scheduled along eastbound I-10. These closures will allow crews to safely perform drainage repairs along the project area. If traveling in this direction, please remember to keep a watchful eye for crews working near live traffic and equipment in use.

New Traffic Switch

As construction progresses along the I-10, an eastbound traffic switch will take place Sunday, August 4, 2024 to shift traffic into the outer lanes. More details to come.

Westbound Rest Area Closure Continues

From Monday, June 24 through Monday, August 5, 2024, motorists can expect a COMPLETE closure of the Westbound I-10 Cactus City Rest Area. This closure will ensure crews can safely and efficiently complete water and sewer line construction and reconstruct the rest area on-and off-ramps. Please remember to plan ahead when traveling through the project area and be sure to keep a watchful eye for crews and construction equipment.

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
