Hello 2019 Breakneck Point Entrants (and veterans, just in case you're intending to signup up under the wire), it's really great to have you! Below you'll find the schedule, modified / updated course info (as of April 6) including maps / route, info on aid station food, parking, camping, and the 2019 Salomon New York (region) Trail Series.

  • Notes:
  • Volunteers - We still need volunteer help for raceday! Have a crew member or friend up for helping out? Please let us know ASAP (Ian@RedNewtRacing.com), and with the potential for getting your entry $ back or carried into a future RNR event.
  • Parking (see map below), as always is limited. If you can find others to car-pool with on race day, please do!!
  • Drops - If you happen to drop from the race, you MUST notify us at the finish and turn in your BIB (helps us track you). If you drop on course do so by making your way to the closest aid station and let that crew know and we'll figure out how to get you back in.

Cut-Off's
To ensure that runners are moving through the course at a pace that will get them in under final time allotments, we've cut-off time grids for each aid station. There's some laxity, but not a ton, so make sure you get there accordingly. We reserve the right to "pull" any runner from the event if they fall behind cutoff times per the safety of all.

Updated Course
Hopefully by now you're all aware that this year we're returning to our original staging area at University Settlement Camp in Beacon. Late in the game we're deciding to unify the courses to reduce confusion which could be caused with the marathon extension after Breakneck Point, and secondary to not being able to pass through Surprise Lake Camp proper secondary to a private function they have scheduled (they're still rock stars for allowing our volunteers to pass through to supply that Aid Station).

Half Marathoners, your course remains pretty similar to what we've had displayed with the variation being a return to the ridge after AS2 a bit sooner and instead of passing through Surprise Lake Camp. You'll also have the marathoners following your same course for the duration.

Marathoners, your front half gets the changeup with a nixing of the Washburn / Bull Hill Loop (sorry, it had some cool parts), a quicker return to the ridge after AS2 and secondary to nixing the Surprise Lake Camp passing, and a return to the Settlement Camp for AS3. Your second / north loop will start the same as your first, an ascent from University Settlement Camp up and over South Mt. Beacon / Fire Tower area, and to join the originally planned clockwise Fishkill configuration. Your opening half will parallel the half marathon course.
Beta Location

All images, track logs and links are in processing of getting updated here. If I'm able to get a turn by turn cue sheet cut in time I'll get that over to you in one more pre-email.

Parking
Parking is tight. Carpool if possible. The address that you can plug into your phone to find the Settlement Camp is 724 Wolcott Ave, Beacon, NY, 12508. The staging pavilion is a white pavilion just north of the Clearwater building and Pool. Parking at the pavilion is for volunteers only. Entrants are to use the parking area accessed by the Disc Golf signage on Rt. 9D just south of the Clearwater building. There may be overflow parking in the Castle lot on the Hudson River / West side of 9D across from the Disc Golf area.
Camping
As in prior years there will be camping at the staging area at Settlement Camp, starting with the grassy area on the west / Hudson River side of the pavilion, and, if flowing over, to the north east side of the pavilion lateral to where the race will start / finish.

It's a good scene. Come meet some good people and swap tall tales. It's a pretty informal setup with event portajohns and first come first serve on the sweetest pieces of level grass, and right next to the staging pavilion. If you're planning on camping, and haven't already, can you hop back on UltraSignUp and add it as an add-on? If not, you can get us on check-in @ bib pickup.
Course Marking
The course will be marked with pink surveyor's flags stuck in the ground. There will be occasional confidence flags, two on the far side of an intersection you'll be crossing, and, at turns, one going into, one on, and one after the turn. We may have a limited number of laminated arrows at a few trickier spots. It's not an over-marked highway out there. Ya gotta pay attention. For those of you who miss a turn or go off course, and, yes, there's guaranteed to be a few and for those which may be our fault, we really do apologize in advance. Oh, and people unfortunately like to steal our markers on this course, particularly around S Mount Beacon. Jerks. Relax and find your way back on and my apologies in advance!
Aid Station Sustenance
Aid Stations will have Tailwind, water, coke, and some assortment of PBJ, cookies, pretzels, and fruit. Supplies are first come first serve so if you have something you're banking on, of, if you need gels, please plan on hauling your private stash. We try to be mindful of having gluten free worked into the equation.
Post Race Food and Beverage
We're stoked to have our Ithaca area friends Myrriah and Jacob of Fitnell Farms, who provide post race food for several other RNR races, providing post race food this year. We hope you enjoy! We'll have limited quantity of beer at the finish. Please drink responsibly and be mindful that there are a lot of runners out there and still to finish. For those who may finish after the kegs are kicked, our apologies in advance!
Race Photos

We're stoked to again have Ron Heerkens Jr. on course behind the lens. No guarantees he'll capture all or you, but, if he does, it's bound to be a beautiful photo. You can look for the link a week or so post-race here: http://goatfactorymedia.com/event-photography/

If we're luck we'll also have Joe Azze of Mountain Peak Fitness cruising around the course capturing photos and/or video. If we're so lucky (and thankful for it), check for them a week or so post race here: https://www.mountainpeakfitness.com/photos
The series is comprised of 5 races in the greater New York region :   Breakneck Point ,  Iron Mines , Whiteface , Water Gap   and   Castle to Rive r. Each event features a half and full distance offering, and scoring is based on the best 3 out of 5.

Ranging from technical climbing, to fast single track, each of these races will be a true test of your endurance and mental stamina. Each race tests different abilities and skills – the race series winners will be the most complete trail runners in the tristate area.
The winners of the full series will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 2020  Broken Arrow Skyrace  in beautiful Squaw Valley, California. The winners of the half series will receive entry into a 2020 Salomon New York Series race along with some sweet Salomon swag.
