Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

This season marks the beginning of one of the most holy seasons in our liturgical year - the Season of Lent. Our school will be doing lots to prepare this season, including the dispersal of ashes to all students during our Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday, March 5. We invite you to join us at the 8:00am Mass to receive ashes yourself. Mr. Gerry will be showing the 3K & 4K students some ashes tomorrow and talking with them more about this special event to prepare them for church, but this is just one of the many ways our school will prepare this Lenten season! Please check out the flyer below to see just some of the many activities we have planned to help us reflect during these next 40 days. We invite you to print out your own copy of our Lenten door signs (pictured here) for your home as you prepare for Christ's death and resurrection as well!

This weekend is another Pack the Church at the 4:30pm Mass on Saturday, March 8. We would love to see you all there, decked out in your St. Alphonsus gear! This is a highly attended Mass and we want parishioners to see our school families, so please consider attending the Saturday Mass this weekend if you normally go on Sundays. In addition, we could use some more lectors & gift bearers for this Mass. Students in grades 2-8 may lector, and students in all grades can be gift bearers, so please consider signing your student up here!

The Greendale Health Department has asked us to share some reminders from them about staying healthy during Spring Break and any upcoming vacations. Please be sure to read their letter below!

Iowa Testing kicked off this week for Grades 3, 5, and 7. Please make sure your students have a restful night's sleep and a good breakfast during the testing sessions!

Don't forget that spring conferences are this week Thursday, March 6 from 4:00 to 6:00pm. You can find out additional details below.

The rest of this newsletter is jam-packed with new items, so please be sure to read thoroughly to the end so you don't miss anything about the Book Fair, Spring Extracurriculars, Box City, Girl Scout Cookies, and more!

Have a great week!

Best regards,

New Pack the Church Lector & Gift Bearer Dates!

Spring Dates for Student Lectors are Now Available!

Please click here to sign up your student in grades 2-8 to be a lector or to sign up your student in all grades to be a gift bearer.

Please note that we are signed up to read at Palm Sunday! This Mass will take place after our middle school Box City service project, and the students who participate in Box City will be attending Mass together that morning. We would like only middle school students to sign up to be lectors and gift bearers that day. Thank you for your cooperation!

Service Program Updates

Middle School Box City is Coming Soon!

Box City will take place from Saturday, April 12 into Palm Sunday. This is a unique service project opportunity for students in grades 5-8.

Students will sleep outside, in boxes, in an attempt to live just a fraction of the unhoused experience. They will then go to Mass together in the morning and participate in the Palm Sunday Pack the Church at 7:00am Mass as lectors and gift bearers.

Parent volunteers are needed for this event! Middle school parents, you can sign up for shifts here.

Spring Extracurricular Opportunities!

Scholastic Book Fair Updates

The Book Fair is Coming March 10 - March 14!

Next week is our Book Fair! This year, we are heading back to Scholastic. You will be able to shop online and students will be able to shop at the fair next week during specific times throughout the school day. In addition, the Book Fair will be open to the public to shop after all weekend Masses on the weekend of March 15 & 16!

To get ready, you can visit the home of our online fair here and set up your e-Wallet. Instructions are shown below. This is an easy way to have your child shop at the fair without sending money to school. That said, we do also take cash, check (made out to St. Alphonsus) and charge card (parents only, we do not accept charge cards from students) during the Book Fair.

Class shopping schedules are still being finalized, but please mark your calendars for March 10 - 16 and considering volunteering to help us out at the Book Fair. You will help us by setting up, helping students shop, running the register, and restocking products and displays.  On the weekend shifts, you will also help parishioners fulfill teacher wishlists and shop for their children and grandchildren!

Mrs. Schermetzler will send out the sign-up genius via email this week after class shopping schedules are finalized, so you can volunteer while your students are shopping. Thank you for your patience!

Track & Field Registration Now Open!

As we shake off the chill of this recent cold spell, it’s exciting to think that track season is just around the corner! Track and Field is a fantastic sport that offers something for everyone.

Whether your kids love sprinting, enjoy the challenge of long-distance running, or prefer the thrill of jumping and throwing, Track has it all!

Track is unique in that it combines the camaraderie of a team sport with the opportunity for individual achievements. It’s a great way for kids to push themselves, set personal goals, and beat their own records, all while being part of a supportive team environment.

Encourage your kids in grades 5-8 to join the Track Team this season! It’s not just about competition; it’s about building friendships, staying active, and having fun. You can register today using this link and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Athletic Director Nick Warrichaiet or Track & Field Coach Ben Rezutek.

The Cougar Athletics Store has some new gear!

That's right, you can now get TRACK gear in addition to Basketball stuff, and soon you will also be able to order ahead for Volleyball in the Fall! Anything you see in the store can have either the track or basketball logos on it. Use the drop downs to select your sport!
