Stable Sheet - February 2023 Part 3
About this section:
This part of your newsletter is for club requests to members, classified ads, and ways that you can advertise with MHAO. At the bottom you have access to information on your Board of Directors, Board meeting dates, etc. This section also includes important news for MHAO members from other organizations that affect the Equine Industry or that might be important to our members. If we are to be effective in our efforts to preserve and promote the Morgan breed of horse, we need to know what is going on around us.

Lease opportunity.
PBP Princess Love A Lee, 2007 Bay Mare, 14.3H (Rum Brook Immortal Prince x ATMF Love Lee Lady). Bella should be enjoyed more than I can give her right now.
Trained and shown by Jean Sauer, Rogue Hill Morgans in Pleasure Driving and was started western when I purchased her in 2013.
In 2021 Bella was leased and ridden in lessons, practice/conditioning hunt seat by 16 yo. girl. Ground covering, go forward walk, athletic extended trot, collected and extended canter/lope gaits which I want to retain. A lead horse, not a follower. I would like her to be trained for neck reining.
Lease duration, disciplines TBD. I will be engaged throughout the lease and her advocate; not disruptive.
1978 through 1980, I leased Morgan horses for my Jr. Exhibitor 14-17 competition years under the direction of Sue Woodson.
This is a very special mare to me! I will not be selling her and 'may' want to breed her in spring/summer 2023 (negotiable).

The Oregon Horse Council works hard to maintain the rights of equestrians across Oregon, but with progressive movement to decrease our trail access, eliminate our land, stop the usage of animals for sport and pleasure and much more – we need to increase our voice! We are excited to launch a Legislative Affairs Committee who will assist our board with taking a stand against the legislation that can negatively impact our industry’s way of life. We invite you to apply to join our committee!
LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE (OHC LAC):  APPLY HERE
  • 7-11 Key Representatives that are chosen by the OHC board to service with 2-3 year terms
  • Meets via Zoom monthly/every other month (or as needed during legislative sessions)
  • Will be invited and encouraged to participate in monthly National Equine Issues Zoom calls, as well as American Horse Council legislative calls, etc.
  • Reviews local, regional, state, and national matters; drafts an OHC position; assists with submitting written and oral testimony
  • Does regular outreach to all parts of the state to gather information on potential and current issues
  • Must apply for this positions, be interviewed by the board, and will only serve at the will of the committee and board. The OHC board will be looking for people who have the overall interest of the industry at the forefront of their goals, can neutrally look at issues, can analytically think through the best position for OHC to take.
  • Will be publicly promoted so that equestrians can reach out to them with questions or concerns
  • May work with other legislative groups (i.e. Oregon Farm Bureau, Cattlemen’s Association, other state horse councils, etc.)

As the Legislative Affairs Committee is formed, we are also working on formal group that will provide a network with equestrians and equine issues across the state, anyone is welcome to join
LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS NETWORK (OHC LAN):  JOIN HERE
  • A vast collection of individuals from all disciplines, breeds, industry areas across Oregon.
  • Invited to join on Legislative Affairs meetings as listening guests (may be called upon for advice or feedback however)
  • Encouraged to provide feedback on issues, to forward issues to the Committee, and to distribute information to their network
  • Ideally this would consist of a representative from every breed association and discipline association in the state
  • Will meet quarterly via Zoom with OHC LAC ommittee and a presenter (on a specific topic)

Registry Rule Updates
During the November 2022 Registry Committee and Board of Directors meetings, the following changes were made to the Registry Rules and Regulations.

Section D was added to Rule 4, Registered Prefixes. Over many years, the reuse of AMHA prefixes has been discussed by the Registry Committee. After much discussion, the committee agreed to allow the reuse of a reserved prefix that has never been used to register a Morgan horse after 20 years. Moving forward, the Committee will be discussing allowing the reuse of a prefix if it has not been used over a five-year period. Staff is unable at this time to compile a list of unused prefixes among the approximately 8,000 that have been registered, therefore requests will be considered upon receipt of any prefix application moving forward.

Share Your "View from My Saddle"
AMHA members, remember you are invited to submit "View from My Saddle" columns for publication in The Morgan Horse magazine. Your submission should be brief (roughly 800 words) first person accounts of activities with your Morgan horse outside of the competition arenas. So share your stories, your personal triumphs, your preferred past times, and your treasured moments with our readers.

Send your article as a Word document with one to two high-resolution photos for illustration to stephen@morganhorse.com. We'll produce it for use in a future issue.
Dollars For DNA
“Dollars for DNA” is a new program developed by the AMHA Welfare & Rescue Committee to provide free DNA testing kits to registered 501(c)(3) rescues that help Morgan horses who find themselves in “at-risk” situations. Currently, a DNA Testing Kit costs $50 per horse (which covers the actual cost of the testing).

The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT), a 501(c)(3) organization, collects and distributes the funds. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Initial funding of the program was through a fundraiser at The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® in October 2021, fundraising by the AMHA Youth, and generous matching funds from the Heidi E. Kunkel Foundation and the Law Office of Kathryn Kirsch, PLLC. The longevity of this program is dependent upon ongoing donations and support.

If you would like to donate to “Dollars for DNA,” please make your check payable to AMHECT and mail it to the AMHA Office (4037 Iron Works Parkway Ste 130, Lexington, KY 40511-8508) or click HERE.
