Hanover cowgirl finds strength in the saddle

If you attended this year’s Hanover Tomato Festival, you might remember Sydney Mason and her 29-year-old best friend, Peaches, carrying the American flag during the National Anthem.

A Hanover resident and first-generation cowgirl, Sydney is a three-time All-Around Cowgirl in Virginia. But her journey is about more than rodeo titles. This experience has given her strength, confidence and a deeper belief in herself.

Help make the holidays bright for Hanover familes

With the holiday season fast approaching, now is the perfect time to give back to the community. Hanover County Department of Community Resources has put together the "Making Holidays Bright" wish list, highlighting local organizations in need of assistance.

Whether through volunteer service or a generous donation of food or funding, your support makes a huge difference in the lives of others!

Ready. Set. Ride safely, Hanover.

Hanover County Fire-EMS wants everyone to enjoy the beautiful riding weather we have this time of year. Here are a few reminders for cyclists, scooterists and motorists to ensure a fun and safe journey to and from home.

The Voter Registration and Elections Office is inviting Hanover students and residents to put their creativity to work and design an original sticker celebrating voting and civic participation. Four winning designs will be selected — one in each category — and could become the stickers Hanover voters proudly wear during elections beginning in 2027.

Categories include:

  • Elementary School: Future Voter Sticker
  • Middle School: I Voted Sticker
  • High School: I Voted Sticker
  • Hanover County Resident: I Voted Sticker

Submit your design by Monday, Nov. 30, online at engage.hanovercounty.gov/stickercontest or by mail or in person to the Voter Registration and Elections Office in the Wickham Building, 7497 County Complex Road, P.O. Box 419, Hanover, VA 23069.

Students may also submit artwork through interoffice mail at their school.
