BOMA California @ Winter Business Meeting

BOMA California started the year strong with a well-attended board meeting last Friday in Indian Wells, CA, held in conjunction with BOMA International's Winter Business Meeting. Industry leaders gathered to discuss ongoing challenges and pressing issues, including California’s wildfire crisis and policy changes stemming from the new presidential administration.

The weekend provided the perfect balance of networking, learning, and camaraderie, all set against a stunning desert backdrop. Leading the meeting was California’s own Manny Moreno, who now serves as the 2024-2025 Chair of BOMA International. Other Californians also played key leadership roles, including Glenn Good, BOMA International Board Member and President of both BOMA California and BOMA Pacific Southwest.

We’re proud to see California’s growing presence within BOMA International and to strengthen our collaboration. A heartfelt thank you to BOMA International, our Board of Directors, and the entire California coalition for making this gathering such a success!

Government Affairs Update: Bill Requests Submitted

Last week marked the final opportunity to submit bill requests to the Office of Legislative Counsel, with February 21st set as the last day for bill introductions.

BOMA California is actively considering sponsorship of six legislative proposals this session, including the reintroduction of last year's AB 2433 (Quirk-Silva; D-Fullerton), aimed at expediting plan checking and inspections, and AB 3196 (Nguyen; D-Elk Grove), which focused on demurrer hearings.

Other key proposals include legislation on fire safety standards for lithium batteries, business property cleanup relief, life cycle assessment training for code enforcement personnel, and enhancing photovoltaic and battery storage incentives and standards.

These legislative efforts not only address critical industry challenges but also help strengthen BOMA California’s relationships with legislators, providing an opportunity to be proactive in shaping policy and lobbying in support of legislation that benefits commercial real estate across California.

Immigration Raids Target Office Buildings

Last week, reports surfaced from San Francisco detailing federal agents conducting what appeared to be an immigration sweep targeting janitors at multiple properties in Downtown SF.
