We’ve all been there: the flashing red and blue lights appear in the rearview mirror, and our brains instantly start spinning an elaborate defense case to the police officer.

We laugh at that driver, but he represents all of us. When our shortcomings are exposed, our default human setting isn't confession—it's self-justification. We try to patch up a crumbling soul with the heavy masonry of human effort, building a spiritual "Leaning Tower of Pisa" that only sinks faster into the mud.

This Sunday, we’re diving into Matthew 21 to see how Jesus shatters our pride, invites us to finally drop our tools, and replaces our failed self-righteousness with His unshakeable mountain of grace.

Join us as we welcome

John Phillip Doerries

son of Philip Doerries, into God's family through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.

The Women's Monday Night Zoom Bible Study resumes on Monday, October 5 at 7:00 pm. We are studying Women of the Bible by Ann Spangler & Jean E. Syswerda. This study focuses on fifty-two remarkable women in Scripture--women whose struggles to live with faith and courage are not unlike your own. Vital and deeply human, the women in this book encourage you through their failures as well as their successes. You'll see how God acted in surprising and wonderful ways to draw them--and you--to Himself. This devotional offers a fresh perspective that will nourish and strengthen your personal relationship with Jesus. If you would like to be a part of this study group, contact Rebecca - Schiltz4@sbcglobal.net or Sherrie - s.smith.lwml@gmail.com. Everyone is welcome!

If you are a Thrivent client, you can direct your Choice Dollars by Dec. 31 to St. John’s Church or School. Your support helps strengthen our mission. To learn more or direct your 'Choice Dollars' go to thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-847-4836 and say “Thrivent Choice.” Thank you!

Do you enjoy fresh flowers?

Each week the altar is beautified with fresh flowers given by individuals of St. John’s congregation. Flowers may be given in memory or in honor of someone or some occasion, in thanksgiving of something, or to the glory of God. The flowers may be taken home after the Sunday services for you to enjoy at home or perhaps share with a loved one or someone you wish to share an invitation to worship at St. John’s. The Flower Chart for 2026 is posted in the narthex on the left brick pillar as you walk into the sanctuary. Flowers are $65 for two arrangements. If you wish to sign up for a particular Sunday and someone else has already signed up, we invite you to sign up in addition to another person giving flowers—you can split the $65 cost with the person signed up or purchase an additional two arrangements for $65. Multiple floral arrangements to beautify the altar are always welcome! A member of the Altar Guild will contact you in advance for your dedication.
