Chef Gida Snyder

HCEF sponsored a UH Kauai Community College (May 6) workshop with Chef Gida Snyder.

Chef Gida has two Kauai businesses that cover very different aspects of food production. One business is a private jet catered meal service, 552 Culinary Group. The other business is Slow Island Food & Beverage Co., focusing on locally grown island ingredients. Chef Gida has received the national Good Food Award for her POG syrup and two finalist awards for her Yuzu and Hawaiian Chili Pepper Syrup.

Chef Gida shared her business philosophy and culinary experiences with the Kauai students. The interactive workshop involved taste-testing her numerous products.

Chef Gida graduated from the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community College.

Students Learn from the Best
Chef Gida’s experience was very inspiring. I hope we meet again!!

I loved the stories, amazing presentation with good information.

Exceeded my expectations, among the best school presentations I have seen.

Not give up on my goals and to grab the bull by the horns and get it moving
Chef Mark "Gooch" Noguchi
HCEF is sponsoring a summitt for High School Culinary Educators on June 3, featuring Chef Mark Noguchi. Twenty-four educators from Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island will participate in the virtual program. Watch for details in next month's Taro Leaf.

Mark “Gooch” Noguchi cooks from an ‘āina-based perspective, connecting food to its source to build community. An approach he learned from hula Halau o Kekuhi, it’s defined his innovative restaurant offerings like He`eia Kea Pier, MISSION Social Hall & Cafe, and his current Pili Group, a non-traditional food concept interweaving community, education and food. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Mark is a 2019 Omidyar Fellow and a Food & Sustainability Curriculum Specialist at Punahou School.
