Tuesday, November 3, 2026, will be remembered for generations to come as an historic election night in Georgia (indeed across the country). Georgia voters elected former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as the first Black woman in the state and the country as governor. Georgians placed Black women candidates as heads of eight state constitutional offices by significant margins. Due to the possibility of a change in political party control, Georgia's State House of Representatives may see the first Black woman, Rep. Carolyn Hugley, as Speaker of the House.
Under our roof, Central UMC member Congresswoman Nikema Williams handily won her race and returns to the US Congress for another term. Due to a change in political party control, the US House of Representatives may have its first Black Speaker of the House.
Now, the work of governing begins. Let us remain prayerful for these and all leaders who sit in seats of authority. And let us, as the Body of Christ, continue to shine bright the light of God's Love, Grace, Mercy, Justice and Righteousness.
