Fr. Bob's Weekly Message

St. John's Family,

This Sunday, Nov. 1st, is a big day in the life the Church, as it is All Saints' Sunday. All Saints is a day when we remember the Big "S" Saints, like John, Mary, Francis, and Claire. It is also a day when we honor the lives of the little "s" saints: a teacher, a friend, a family member, or anyone who has loved you and nurtured you our life thus far. Thank you for the pictures you sent in. Our slideshow should be grand.

It is also a big day in the life of our branch of the Episcopal Church, St. John's in the Mountains, as it is the culmination of the Fall Fundraising Campaign for our 2027 Budget. This is the Sunday to bring in your blank pledge cards (we will have extra on hand). As part of our worship, we will allow time for reflection, prayer, and to place our pledges to the 2027 budget at the altar. If you have not yet been able to read our fundrasing packet, it can be found on our website, here.

As if this were not enough, Nov. 1st is also a big day in Stowe, as Sunday is the Vermont 10 Miler foot race, with a course near St. John's building. If you are coming in person, please allow extra time for getting to worship. As long as we are on the subject of time, this Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings Time.

Next Sunday, Nov. 8th, is shaping up to be big, too, as it will mark the Sunday we collect to support Lamoille Food Share's Share For Thanksgiving. Look forward to a fun surprise. Gobble. Gobble.

Finally, I will ask again if anyone would like to learn our Sunday technology role, please let me know with a conversation, call, text, email, or any other way you can think of. Thanks for this and all you do.

In Christ's Peace, Bob+

P.S. I also understand another scammer is pretending to be me. Rest assured, I will never ask you for money or gift cards.

Prayers of the People

In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in their daily life and work;

For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.

For this community, the nation, and the world;

For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

We lift before you those who travel this season.

For the just and proper use of your creation;

For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

We lift before you places of conflict, and the most vulnerable: children and the elderly.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;

For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

We lift before you: Josh, Sue, Sharon, Wyatt, Lulu, Chloe, Nicole, Sophie, Lois, Lorrie, Tim, Wayne, Katherine, Dora, Rob, Doug, Maggie, Scott, Sandy, Bob, Emily, Richard, Barbara, George, Bidi, Nikki, Kendry, Hank, Tana, and Theo.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God;

For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

In our Cycles of Prayer, we remember…

The Anglican Community Partner Church, The Russian Orthodox Church.

The Diocese of VT’s St. Paul's Church, Wells.

St. John’s Ministries: Sextons, Building & Grounds.

Ecumenical and Interfaith Partner, Jewish Community of Greater Stowe.

Lamoille and Washington County Ministry Partner, Lamoille Community Food Share.

For Sarah, Archbishop of Canterbury, Sean, our Presiding Bishop, Shannon, our Bishop, Bob, our priest; and for all bishops and other ministers;

For all who serve God in his Church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.

Hear us, Lord;

For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. We will exalt you, O God our King;

And praise your Name for ever and ever.

We pray for all who have died, especially Keith, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom, and those we name aloud or in our hearts.

Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;

Who put their trust in you.

Prayers and Support for Panama

Our Seminarian, James Grace, spends some of his days in Panama. Last week, Panama experienced a magnitude 7.7 earthquake while James was there. Blessedly, James' community was spared much of the devastation, but the community next to his, Hicaco - where many service workers and their families live - was not. James has put us in touch with a team including architects, builders, and community organizers who are rebuilding in the wake of the destruction. If you would like to give toward this rebuilding effort, please make a gift to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, earmarked: Panama Earthquake Relief. Your prayers are likewise requested and most welcome. Thank you.

Sunday Readings Bible Study, Holy Communion/Conversation

and Bring-Your-Own Lunch on Wednesdays at 11:56a

The Sunday Readings Bible Study, Holy Communion and Conversation meets on Wednesdays at 11:56a. (John 11:56b: "What do you think? Will Jesus come to the feast?") Please consider joining this deep and meaningful discussion among faithful St. John's members. If you like, you can bring your own lunch, too, and participate in a shared meal around the Holy Table.

Fill Any Bag Sunday – November 1

Our goal for 2026 is to collect 208 bags, and we’ve collected 82 so far!

We need to collect approximately 63 bags per month for the remainder
of the year to reach our goal.

A $25 donation sponsors one Green Bag, but every contribution makes a difference.

Thank you for continued support and generosity.
