MAGC board member Dr. Dante Dixson and his colleagues have a wonder article in the December/January 2020 edition of Kappan Online titled, “A Call to Reframe Gifted Education as Maximizing Learning.”
Is there hope for gifted education? Can we think differently about how we serve our most able learners? The Michigan Association for Gifted Children is pleased to announce that in 2021 it will once again offer summer scholarships for students seeking a rewarding summer experience (camp, class, etc.). This year, two $400 scholarships will be awarded. Interested students can use our online application, which provides applicants with an easy, streamlined method of applying.
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be nominated by a current MAGC member (parent, teacher, family friend, etc.).
You can also become an MAGC member in order to sponsor someone. Membership is only $25 per year, and you can join online using the Membership Application. Membership status will be verified prior to award announcements. Winners must agree to submit verification that the scholarship money was used as planned, as well as a short review of the summer experience for possible publication in the MAGC newsletter.
The online application will be available from now until the deadline of 11:59 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2021. Applications must be received online by the deadline to be considered for an award. There are no exceptions to this due date. Scholarship recipients will be notified by Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Check out the website, www.migiftedchild.org, for more information, or go directly to the scholarship application form.

How to Use Project-Based Learning for Gifted Engagement
Teachers need to be intentional about meeting the needs of gifted learners in order to help them reach their potential. Because these students require different levels of challenge and experiences, one way to address this is through experiential learning such as Project Based Learning. This type of open-ended, high ceiling pedagogy lends itself well to incorporating higher level thinking skills in the classroom. Kelly Margot and Jacque Melin will lead you through how to incorporate PBL in your program or classroom - allowing all students to maximize their abilities.
