Preparations for Ash Monday Observance
As we prepare for our Best Self Lent, we enter the 40-day water ritual journey, with the heightened expectation that we will grow, change, and become a little closer to our higher self along the way. Each member is asked to consider what area(s) of growth they are focusing on (mind, body, spirit) for example, “I’m doing a plant-based diet for 40 days!” or “I’m working on being consistent in my support of the Liberation Triangle, going over and above whenever possible.” “During Lent, I will actively participate in at least one Re-imagining Focus Group.” Your Lenten vows should also include a financial pledge which serves as a tangible expression of your inner self-determination. Choose a Lenten partner to help support you during the period. Keep a daily journal to reinforce your goals, and always use positive affirmations to strengthen your purpose and intentions. In addition, each member should prepare a teaspoon of ashes (incense, wood chips, coal, work best) for the anointment portion of the ritual observance. After the ritual, you can place the remaining ash on your altar as a symbol of your sacred vows.
