If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. Mark 9:22

Hello Laura,

According to Oswald Chambers: “After every time of exaltation, we are brought down with a sudden rush into things as they really are, where it is neither beautiful, poetic nor thrilling. The height of the mountaintop is measured by the dismal drudgery of the valley, but it is in the valley that we have to live for the glory of God. We see HIS glory on the mountain, but we never live for HIS glory there. It is the place of humiliation that we find our true worth to GOD – that is where our faithfulness is revealed.”

That is basically the story of my journey to Englewood. The LORD told me that if you want to be obedient to my will, have compassion for your neighbors in Englewood. Please share with them the physical food they need to sustain their bodies and the spiritual food needed to sustain their souls. To accomplish this I want you in Englewood 5-6 days a week.

Exaltation vs Humiliation; Comfort vs Obedience

Before 2009 and Shepherd’s Hope, I was living a life of one mountaintop experience to another, one feel good to another because I had the resources. I was ignoring the pain of others that I knew existed. People who didn’t have the resources to feed, clothe and house their families. Why should I worry about them?

I lived this way for over 20 years, a self-indulgent, superficial life with no real depth or meaning. I didn’t want to leave the lifestyle of exaltation (suburbs) to enter the valley of humiliation (Englewood). The LORD basically gave me the option to be obedient to HIS will and HE would take care of all the rest or go back to where I was comfortable.

In 2009 I chose obedience over comfort and never looked back. I opted for living in the valley according to my personal relationship with JESUS, instead of living at some heroic level of intensity, simply because of the natural selfishness of my own heart.

Discount Tire Tells Our Story

About 2 months ago, Discount Tire, a corporate donor of ours, is so proud of their relationship with Shepherd’s Hope and what Shepherd's Hope is doing in Chicago they produced a video to present at their Discount Tire annual regional gathering and their Driven to Care National Convention. At the national convention the video was viewed by more than 1,000 people who we have been told were emotionally impacted by what was shared.
