Message from the Principal

Dear DHS staff, students, and families,

As you know, we are already busy preparing for next school year. For current freshmen-juniors, next year's course requests may be reviewed on Infinite Campus through February 18. (Please be aware that Infinite Campus is conducting updates, so there may be limited access Sunday night and on Monday, thus we encourage you to review classes early!)

Of course, we still need to focus on this current school year! To that end, as we approach the midpoint of the semester, we want to remind students and parents/guardians of the available resources and steps for academic improvement and course level changes. If a student is struggling in a course, there are a few proactive steps they can take to improve academically, such as seeking additional help from the teacher or visiting the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for additional support.

For students who are interested in exploring a course level change for this semester due to significant academic struggles, it is essential to meet with their teacher by Thursday, 2/20/25. During this meeting, the teacher will work with the student to establish an academic intervention plan that identifies areas for improvement and outlines targeted interventions both in the class and potentially outside of the class itself. Students will be expected to participate in the intervention plan for approximately 4 weeks to give time for progress.

At the end of this period, the student’s progress will be reviewed, and the course level change request will be reconsidered if necessary. Families will be informed around the week of March 31st if the level change request will be approved. Please note that while participating in the intervention plan is an important step, a course level change is not guaranteed. All requests will be evaluated by our Instructional Leadership Team, and decisions will depend on the student's progress, class size limitations, and the overall class schedule.

As a reminder, details about the course level change policy for the upcoming 2025-2026 can be found in English here and in Spanish here.

Thank you for your continued collaboration as we work together to help every student succeed.

Warm regards,

Principal Anderson
