Community Engagement Hub at Open Streets Hamilton

On June 22, the Community Engagement team hosted a pop-up Community Engagement Hub at the intersection of King St. E. and Wellington St. N as part of the City's Open Streets event.

Over the course of the very hot and sunny day, the Community Engagement Hub space hosted 9 City-led projects to have “Conversations with Community”.

City staff engaged with over 200 participants and developed connections with the public on initiatives that matter to them.

As part of the 10-year milestone for Our Future Hamilton, Open Streets visitors were invited to share their "wish" for Hamilton using sidewalk chalk. Stay tuned for more opportunities to contribute to the 10-year check-in on Our Future Hamilton.

Meet Pravash Pandey!

For this newsletter, we are delighted to feature Pravash! He is a true champion for making Hamilton a great place and is an avid volunteer with numerous organizations and events - YWCA, Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council, Open Streets, World Vision, Food4Kids, Winterfest, Mishka Social Services, and is a member of the HamOnt Youth Steering Committee.

His commitment to community is best described in Prav's own words: "Over the past few years, being involved in the community has become a big part of who I am. I have always believed in showing up, helping where I can, and learning from the people around me."

Pravash is recent graduate of Mohawk College's postgraduate certificate in Global Business Management and is committed to being a leader to shape more inclusive and supportive communities. He dreams big and would love to one day represent Hamilton in either municipal, provincial or federal government.

Jesse Williamson, Project Manager with Hamilton's Strategic Youth Initiatives had high praise for Pravash and his commitment to community:

"Pravash joined the HamOntYouth Steering Committee in October 2024 and immediately dove into the work with passion and energy. Within his first six weeks, he played a key role in recruiting 10 new youth members, helping to strengthen and diversify the committee. That same month, he volunteered at the 2nd Annual HamOntYouth Summit Presented by RBC and has since continued to support the initiative by co-chairing monthly committee meetings, facilitating youth-led conversations at Hamilton’s Youth Town Hall and contributing over 40 volunteer hours since joining.

Prav is an incredible human being—kind, committed, and full of heart. His great sense of humor and deep love for Hamilton shine through in everything he does. We’re so grateful to have him as part of the team!"

What is Prav's Future Hamilton? "My future Hamilton is a place where no one feels like an outsider - no matter where they come from, what language they speak, or what name they carry...It is a city that is affordable, accessible, and accountable. One that values equity over ego and makes space for collaboration, not competition...My future Hamilton is a place where I can grow, give back, and help build something bigger than myself. While my journey didn’t begin here, my future is firmly rooted in Hamilton."

Our biggest thanks to Pravash for all he has done and continues to do to for Hamilton. Want to get in touch with Prav? Reach out to him on Instagram at @pravs5.0.
