Official news about the City of Cedar Park from the City of Cedar Park

James Mallinger joined the Cedar Park Fire Department in 1996 and, over the next 30 years, rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief in 2012. He was recognized at last night's City Council Meeting for his dedication to and service to the City of Cedar Park.

In his tenure, Chief Mallinger helped lead the department’s transition to a fully paid organization, supported the opening of new fire stations, and strengthened the City’s emergency preparedness efforts. As Fire Chief, he maintained ISO Class 1 status, earned international accreditation, and launched the region’s first auto-aid agreement to improve response times.

Cedar Park is safer and stronger because of his decades of dedicated leadership. We thank Chief Mallinger for his 30 years of service and lasting impact on our community.

Brushy Creek Sports Park Closure

We are nearing completion of the Brushy Creek Sports Park Improvement Project.

Brushy Creek Sports Park is closed through March 4 for completion of the improvement project. This includes the skate park and the basketball court.

This closure will provide necessary safety for park users and the contractor while the project is completed. Additionally, this will allow for construction to be completed before Spring Break and allow our Spring programs to start on time.

Access to the Regional Trail will remain available by parking at Brushy Creek Lake Park.

Thank you for your patience while this construction is completed. Questions? Please contact the Cedar Park Recreation Center by calling 512-401-5516.

Now Hiring: Lifeguards

Summer may feel far away, but we’re already preparing for pool season, and that means it’s time to hire lifeguards. If you or someone you know is looking for a rewarding summer job, now is the time to apply.

Every summer, our aquatics team works hard to ensure a safe, fun experience for the community. Lifeguards play a critical role in that effort, gaining valuable leadership skills, lifesaving training, and hands-on experience that looks great on a résumé. It’s more than a summer job; it’s a chance to build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork skills that last a lifetime.

While many applicants wait until April or May, those who apply early have the advantage. Early applicants have more flexibility in scheduling certification courses, securing preferred shifts, and completing onboarding requirements before the busy season begins.

If you like a flexible schedule, free training, and a fun work environment, apply today and join our team! Apply at CedarParkTexas.gov.

Heads up, Cedar Park!

Whether you’re hitting the trails for some fresh air or crossing the street at a busy intersection, pedestrian safety starts with staying alert.

On trails:

• Keep your head up and be aware of cyclists and other walkers

• Stay to the right and pass on the left

• If you’re wearing headphones, keep the volume low so you can hear your surroundings

At crosswalks:

• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping out

• Use marked crosswalks and pedestrian signals

• Put the phone down and look both ways
