CNTR to Present Results from Several Projects at MHSRS

In addition to exhibiting at the Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) this year, CNTR is pleased to be offering two oral presentations and a poster related to recent impactful projects.

If you're attending this year's meeting, please catch our presentations on the Multi-Institutional Multidisciplinary Injury Mortality Investigation in the Civilian Prehospital Environment (MIMIC) and Plasma Resuscitation without Lung Injury (PROPOLIS), and our poster detailing the functions of the National Trauma Research Repository (NTRR). And come see us at booth #300 in the exhibit hall!

The 2025 MHSRS will be held Monday, 4 August to Thursday, 7 August 2025 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, Kissimmee, Fl.

Donate to CNTR and Support the Trauma Research Community!

Help us celebrate the five-year anniversary of CNTR's official relaunch! Consider a donation to CNTR that helps support the research infrastructure we're building to benefit the entire trauma community. CNTR's study data repository, patient and caregiver panel, grant-writing assistance, federal advocacy efforts, and more, all contribute to a supportive ecosystem for trauma inquiry.

Read our Case for Support highlighting how CNTR's mission is essential to developing the evidence that underlies delivery of the best care possible--for every patient, every time.

As a donor, you'll join the Friends of CNTR Giving Society, and when your cumulative giving reaches $500, we'll send you our commemorative lapel pin.

It's Changing of the Guard Season at CNTR

Other core organization appointment updates are as follows:

EAST has appointed Michael Goodman, MD, to serve on the Scientific Advisory Committee.

ACS-COT representatives who are eligible for second terms and have agreed to do so: Jeffrey Kerby, MD on the Board of Directors; Zara Cooper, MD, and Mayur Patel, MD, on the Scientific Advisory Committee; and Marc de Moya, MD, on the SAFER-Trauma Committee.

Deborah Stein, MD, has agreed to serve a second term as AAST representative to the Scientific Advisory Committee.

Stakeholder organizations are now reviewing appointments for those whose terms are expiring.

Abi Muthumani Joins CNTR as Research Fellow Supporting DFI Activities

CNTR is pleased to announce that Abi Muthumani, MD, has joined us to work specifically on implementation projects resulting from the Design for Implementation (DFI) conference. A physician with a background in global surgery and public health, Dr. Muthumani's work focuses on advancing equitable access to humanitarian surgical care, strengthening trauma systems, and building pediatric surgical capacity in low-resource settings.

Muthumani will contribute to initiatives such as the translation of trauma guidelines into practice. "My goal is to promote meaningful stakeholder engagement and ensure that care models are accessible, relevant, and actionable across diverse global health systems," she said.

With expertise in surgical outcomes research, regulatory processes, and grant writing, she'll also support other CNTR projects.

SAFER-Trauma Manuscripts Now Published in TSACO Special Issue

Six manuscripts resulting from the Summit on the Advancement of Focused Equity Research in Trauma (SAFER-Trauma), which CNTR held in August 2023, are now available on the Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open platform.

The published papers discuss the impetus for the conference and share its important outputs. Titles include: "Trauma Care Disparities: is equity the Key," Innovative approaches to equity research in trauma," and Unveiling the economic value of equitable care for the trauma tidally injured," among others.

Article Examines the Gates Foundation's Implementation of its Open Access Policy

In an article titled “A decade of open access policy at the Gates Foundation based on experimentation, evidence and evolution” published in Insights (2025), Senior Officer of Knowledge and Research Services with the Gates Foundation, Ashley Farley, examines the foundation's ten-year journey to implement and refine its Open Access (OA) policy.

Ms. Farley begins her examination in 2015 with the implementation of a new policy mandating that all research articles funded by the foundation be openly accessible.

CNTR Exec Director to Serve on the Organizational Stakeholder Advisory Core for FASTER-HIP Study

Michelle Price, PhD, CNTR's executive director, was invited to participate in an advisory capacity on the FASTER-HIP study. The study, officially titled "Comparing Arthroplasty and Internal Fixation for Reducing Death, Improving Ambulation, and Increasing Days at Home After Minimally Displaced Femoral Neck Fracture," is funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

This study builds on a pilot trial and will include 600 participants across approximately 30 clinical sites in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Dr. Price will share the CNTR perspective, help the team frame its findings in accordance with our mission, and help disseminate the results to CNTR membership.

Help Recruit Rural Trauma Patients & Caregivers for PCORI Project

Dr. Marta McCrum, at the University of Utah, is actively recruiting rural trauma survivors and family caregivers to participate in her PCORI-funded project, Building Capacity for PCOR/CER by Engaging Rural Trauma Survivors and Their Recovery Communities.

The next patient engagement sessions will occur August 28 and September 2, 2025 (times TBD). If you are a trauma surgeon, nurse or other trauma care provider who serves in a rural setting, please share this QR code with patients and caregivers you think might be interested in participating.
