June 2026

Compatriots and Friends of the SAR

The focus of our May meeting was to recognize the achievements of outstanding students in our community. We had a great turnout, thank everyone for attending and showing support for our youth. We were especially honored to have California SAR President Randy Dhindsa and California SAR VP North, Danny Shurtz join us. Special thanks to Don Littlefield, Jon Wroten, and Jim McGraw for overseeing these great SAR programs.

May has been a remarkable month. We hosted two students at our Awards Banquet, presented SAR Heroism Awards to Paramedic John Doughty and EMT Edward Slivinskiy of Sacramento Metro Fire Station 105 for which we received media attention from two local media outlets, we participated in the Sacramento Yacht Club boat parade on Russ Kaiser's vessel (complete with a cannon) decorated with the America 250 theme, our school guard presented to six 5th Grade assemblies wrapping up the school year, we participated in a Memorial Day event at Sacramento's Historical Cemetery organized by the Sacramento Affiliated Veterans Council, and our Color Guard Commander and certified NRA Instructor, Russ Kaiser qualified five compatriots to be able to participate in SAR firing events.

Our new website has been published by our new Webmaster, Gary Theisen.

Have a look at: https://sar-sacramento.org/ Gary has done a great job with this. On behalf of the Sacramento SAR membership, I want to recognize and thank Don Littlefield for being our webmaster for many years. His contributions to our chapter with the website and many other SAR programs has been invaluable.

There is an upcoming event on June 19 at 4 pm that our membership may find interesting. American Heritage Partners, is hosting, via Zoom an interview with John Adams. featuring Mike Lebsock performing as John Adams. Mike is a member of the Oregon SAR and an award winning Adams re-enactor. who will appear as if he is sitting in the City Tavern in Philadelphia in June 1776, during the couple of weeks when he and Thomas Jefferson were hashing out the text of the Declaration of Independence. It's guaranteed tp be a fun and entertaining Zoom event— and it’s free.

Click on the button below to access the announcement. Click on link at the bottom of the poster to access the event on June 19th, or use this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87002632930?pwd=YEflEbaJLalZrQroW77scIly3bJvIQ.1#success

One of our most important events of the year is the 4th of July Carmichael Parade. The SAR and DAR will be leading the parade so I am encouraging everyone to come out and join us celebrating America's 250th birthday. You don't have to be an SAR member, so friends and family are welcome, You don't have to be in colonial attire, just dress comfortably and bring your enthusiasm.

All of our programs have a positive effect on our community; they are successful because of you. Thank You!

Libertas et Patria,

Craig Anderson

Follow California SAR America 250 Historical Series on Instagram

The America 250 Daily Historical Series, created by the America 250 Chair for the California Society for the Sons of the American Revolution, brings the story of the American Revolution to life through engaging, research-based daily reels. As part of our educational outreach, this initiative is designed to expand the reach of the SAR and connect with new audiences and demographics, in support of our mission to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and educate future generations about the founding principles of our nation.

Designed for a general audience, these posts aim to increase awareness and foster deeper engagement with the American Revolutionary War. They function as “America 250 minutes” in video form, paired with researched captions that provide a new and interesting perspective on the Revolution each day. Each month explores a different theme—such as the British imperial crisis, global and frontier conflicts, defining moments of liberty, and the lived experiences of soldiers and civilians—offering a deeper and more structured understanding of the era.

The series highlights key battles, influential figures, international alliances, and often overlooked perspectives to broaden public understanding—follow along and join the journey to 1776: https://www.instagram.com/california_sar/

THE NATIONAL SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION’S

YOUTH PROTECTION POLICY

“The SAR strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in SAR sponsored activities. To the best of their ability, Compatriots and staff, their spouses and partners, and other event volunteers must safeguard the children and young people with whom they come into contact and protect them from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.”

Youth Protection Awareness and Youth Protection Training

All Compatriots should be aware of the need for Youth Protection Programs and the NSSAR’s YP Policies. Youth Protection Training (YPT) is a critical component of the best practices for organizations who work with young people and for the SAR it is mandatory for all Compatriots in Leadership Positions, Color Guard Members, School Guard Members, and Professional Staff and any Compatriots who work with young people through our Education Outreach Programs, Youth Contests, or with the Children of the American Revolution. This would include but is not limited to Compatriots on the following committees: Americanism, American History Teacher Award, Eagle Scout, Knight Essay, ROTC/JROTC, Rumbaugh and Engagements, Education, CAR Liaison and the Council of State Presidents.

On successful completion of the SAR YPT, you will receive an electronic diploma in PDF format. Forward a copy to: craigandersonsar@gmail.com

These messages are getting more sophisticated and may even include the unauthorized use of the SAR logo and/or a pseudo SAR email address.
