On Sunday November 13th, 2022, St. Sarkis and Holy Martyrs Jr. Basketball teams versed each other in a great and exciting game at Mitchell Gym in Garden City. The gym was packed with parents and friends of both teams cheering as the teams scored. St. Sarkis played excellent offense and defense. The buzzer sounds and the game started with Gaby N. evading the players to impressively score. Soon after Nick T. and Rafi B. strategically blocked a player from scoring by surrounding him on both sides.
Andrew T. came with a lot of energy, showing his defensive skills. An amazing play soon after halftime was when Armen F. dribbled the ball to the end of the court where he did a swift pass to Vaghen G. who then, surrounded by the other team, passed it over their heads to Sevan B. who made a quick layup to score the team points.
This all happened while Aris M. cheered his team on. Armen M. great under pressure protected the ball from the other team. Atharv D. was quick on his feet as scored points for the team. The final point of the game was made by my brother Teddy G. who caught the ball and dribbled the ball up to the basket where he was assisted by his great team members to make his first score for his team.
Even though St. Sarkis didn’t win the game, they played well and had lots of fun.

On Sunday November 20th St. Sarkis Jr. Basketball team faced a challenging match against St. Vartanantz. Even though St. Vartanantz’s team had a height advantage, St. Sarkis stayed strong together and showed excellent teamwork.
They played defense aggressively that made it very difficult for their opponents to pass. Multiple times they were able to steal the ball when they double teamed a player.
Each time St. Sarkis scored a very loud cheer of excitement came from the crowd. Unfortunately St. Sarkis lost this time; however, the players stuck together through the game and were proud and supportive of each other.

Senior Boys
Reported by AnnMarie Hazarian
On the 20th of November, the Senior boys' basketball game against St. Vartanantz was starting strong with James Ulrich and David Zhang getting layups and rebounds. Even with a few fouls, they kept their heads up. Following up in the second quarter, Brandon Nalbantian showed up with proud rebounds being backed up by his teammates, shooting the ball. Eddy Hazarian and James Kasparian had great defense against their opposing team. David scored a three pointer, ending the second quarter with an amazing buzzerbeater.
Moving into the third quarter, David stole the ball, and passed it to James U. making the layup. Christian Voses got fouled, but got the ball in. After this, David got fouled too and made his points. Brandon finished off the third quarter with a fast break. Finally making their way into the fourth quarter, David hit another three pointer, while his teammate Andrew Gorgissian blocked the opposing team from scoring. There were some malfunctions with the scoreboard which left many confused and angry but Sarkis led the game tough and strong. Gary Nercessian got a foul, and made the shot. He continued on by putting up strong defensive skills. Matthew Varadi passed the ball back to James U. getting another layup. The team played well, and left with another win. This team leads with amazing sportsmanship, and they all play with care for eachother.

SAINTS THADDEUS AND BARTHOLOMEW
This Saturday, December 3, the Armenian Church commemorates Saints Thaddeus and Bartholomew, two of the twelve apostles who were the first evangelizers of Armenia, and were martyred there, giving the Armenian Church its apostolic identity and earning them the title, “First Enlighteners of Armenia.”
Thaddeus came to Armenia about 43 AD to preach Christianity. He was martyred in southeastern Armenia. His tomb lies in the Armenian monastery of St. Thaddeus (Iran) where a chapel was built in the third century. Bartholomew is believed to have arrived in Armenia about 66 AD. He was martyred in Hadamakert, southeast of Lake Van.
An apostle is “someone who is sent”—an emissary or ambassador of the Kingdom of God, sent to announce the gospel of Jesus Christ, and authorized to claim men and women’s allegiance to him. “We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE THESSALONIANS (4.1-12)
Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more.
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (13:1-9)
At that very time there were some present who told him about the Galileans whom blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. He asked them, "Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were worse sinners than all other Galileans? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fall on them-do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others living in Jerusalem. No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish just as they did."
Than he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, 'See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?' He replied, 'Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down."
