City of Vallejo Update on Emergency Planning for Winter Storm Preparedness

Vallejo, CA - In advance of the upcoming winter storm season and following the Governor's recent statewide emergency declaration, the City of Vallejo is actively preparing for potential impacts to the community. At the direction of the City Manager, staff have established regular coordination meetings to monitor conditions, assess readiness, and support a unified response should severe weather occur.

The City operates under an established Emergency Operations Plan that outlines the roles, responsibilities, and coordination of City departments during an emergency. These operations are designed to be scalable and can be expanded or reduced based on the nature and severity of an event.

The City Manager, serving as the Director of Emergency Services, oversees emergency operations in coordination with designated City staff. The Fire Department manages and supports Emergency Operations Center activities and continues to enhance the City's preparedness. The City Council will continue to provide policy direction and carry out its legislative responsibilities, supported by regular staff updates. A draft plan outlining departmental roles and operational coordination is being shared as background for these efforts.

To align with the Governor's proactive declaration, staff anticipate bringing a proposed Local Emergency proclamation to the City Council. Establishing a local proclamation in advance will streamline operations and provide the necessary authorities should conditions require a heightened response. A local proclamation is separate from the activation of the Emergency Operations Center; EOC activity can be adjusted as conditions evolve.

The City continues to coordinate closely with the Solano County Operational Area, neighboring jurisdictions, mutual-aid partners, and regional and state agencies. This collaboration supports planning efforts related to resource deployment, communication, and operational readiness throughout the winter storm season.

City leaders remain focused on early preparation, strong interagency coordination, and effective response planning. Staff will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates to the City Council and community as significant developments occur or as Council action becomes necessary.
