The characters in Tom of Finland’s drawings – lumberjacks, bikers, soldiers and policemen – exude vitality, joy and pride. Their leather gear and uniforms are portrayed with the same exquisite attention to detail as their muscular physiques. In his drawings, men connect with one another through erotic-laden gazes, gestures and postures.
Through 26th November

Dreamy – Queer Imaginaries from the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma’s collection, aiming at underlining the continuities between past and present practices dealing with LGBTQI+ identities, historicizing recent practices and signaling Tom of Finland’s pioneering agency.
News & Announcements
Tom’s cheerful, sexually explicit works made an impact in the art world at a time when homosexuality was illegal or classified as a disease in countries around the world, including his native Finland. The Nordic country has since embraced the artist, who died in 1991, as a national icon.
Since its inception in 1984, Tom of Finland Foundation has always been a membership-focused and volunteer-driven organization. Today we highlight our volunteer Catalina, who had some words to share about why she supports the Foundation.
Written and directed by Ilppo Pohjola, this is the only film ever made with Tom of Finland. It uses a variety of visual elements and shows how his work passed from being the private fantasies of a man in Europe to underground images that shaped generations’ ideas of how a Queer man could look and act.
Tom’s place in art history will be further cemented by the exhibition TOM OF FINLAND Bold Journey at the Finnish National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, from 28th April to 29th October. The overview of the artist’s work will include not just drawings but vitrines filled with personal effects and memorabilia and a VR experience of TOM House in Los Angeles, now the headquarters of Tom of Finland Foundation.
"Now David Hurles has left us. Like Tom of Finland, David was a trailblazer. There will never be anyone like him again. R.I.P. my kinky brother."

–Rick Castro on the passing of David Hurles
