Serving on the board of directors is a volunteer leadership opportunity. The Board provides WILPF’s overall leadership and governance, sets direction on culture and values, and ensures that WILPF achieves its aims and principles. A major goal of the Board is to seek ways for our members to most effectively support our mission of moving towards a world working for peace and eliminating all weapons of mass destruction and war, while also increasing the diversity and inclusivity of our membership.
We have openings on our Board for both full and partial terms (completing the remainder of a term), all beginning in January 2025. The Nominating Committee can also offer you information about other national WILPF leadership opportunities.
You can recognize and affirm potential leaders by nominating them now!
Nominations, applications, and elections will take place during the fall of 2024. To serve on the Board, one must be a current member of WILPF US and must have been a member for at least twenty-four months out of the thirty months preceding the elections.
The deadline to nominate someone is 11 pm local time, Saturday, October 5, 2024. (Please contact me, Ellen Schwartz at contact information below to get the nomination form.)
Openings in the 2024 Elections
The following Board positions are open for the full three-year terms or for completion of terms, as shown:
- President (or a team of two Co-Presidents): full term, ends January 2028
- Membership Development Committee Chair: partial term, ends January 2026
- Development Committee Chair (or a team of two Co-Chairs) full term, ends January 2028

One Program Committee Chair (George Friday currently serves as the other Program Committee Chair; these chairs are not co-chairs and their terms are not simultaneous): partial term, ends January 2027
- Nominating Committee Chair: full term, ends January 2028

One At-Large Board Member: full term, ends January 2028
These Board terms begin during the January 25, 2025 Board meeting.
