Dear District 65 Community,
I hope you enjoyed a relaxing, sunny weekend! I’m writing to let you know that the School Board has scheduled a special meeting this Wednesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center (1500 McDaniel Ave., Evanston). All are welcome to attend.
Wednesday’s meeting is a time for the Board to continue its public discussion of the school closure scenarios, which were brought forward last week by the administration as part of Phase III of our Structural Deficit Reduction Plan (SDRP). No votes will be taken. The meeting will be livestreamed and archived on the D65 YouTube page.
Discussing the potential for additional school closures is not easy, and I acknowledge that these discussions have prompted uncertainty and anxiety within our D65 community. As a leader I believe these conversations, while extremely difficult, should be transparent and include all voices. We hope you will continue to share your feedback with us at our upcoming in-person engagement opportunities or through the online survey, details of which are below.
Thank you for taking the time to explore these scenarios, give feedback, and ask questions. To view the proposed boundary maps, feeder patterns, data tables, and financial impacts for each scenario, we encourage you to visit the District 65 Phase III: School Closure Hub.
Warmly,
Dr. Angel Turner (she/her)
Superintendent
