“If You Don't Know Me By Now”

Rev. Paul Trudeau

Greetings!

We look forward to worshiping together this Sunday morning, even as some in our community are enjoying the All Church Retreat. I will come from the retreat to join you and to enjoy the preaching of Rev. Paul Trudeau.

Paul is the Founder and Executive Director of City Hope SF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing radical hospitality and dignified transformation for individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.

It is fitting that Paul finish out our series on mutual aid, as he works from a vision of creating a community where every person is seen, known, and valued. Today, City Hope operates a community center, café, and transitional sober living home, bringing together people from all walks of life through shared meals, meaningful relationships, and mutual care.

Join us to find out more about God working through City Hope SF and what we can learn and apply from Paul's experience.

Faithfully,

Hardy

Join us for Coffee Hour this Sunday after worship in Trinity Court or online!

because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

Questions for Reflection
  • When have you felt marginalized, overlooked, or excluded from a community? Perhaps in a workplace, school, or social setting? How did it make you feel? Conversely, when has a community gone out of its way to know, listen to, and include you? How did that experience make you feel?

  • Jesus tells us that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for him. How might our relationships with those who are suffering change if we approached every encounter believing that we were meeting Christ himself?

Luke 8:1-3

Soon afterward, Jesus traveled through the cities and villages, preaching and proclaiming the good news of God’s kingdom. The Twelve were with him, along with some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses. Among them were Mary Magdalene (from whom seven demons had been thrown out), Joanna (the wife of Herod’s servant Chuza), Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

Matthew 25:31–40

“Now when the Human One comes in his majesty and all his angels are with him, he will sit on his majestic throne. All the nations will be gathered in front of him. He will separate them from each other, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right side. But the goats he will put on his left.

“Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who will receive good things from my Father. Inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world began. I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.’

“Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

“Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’”
