Goldpine
March 23, 7 p.m.
The Stoltz Listening Room
“I love these guys...their never-ending onslaught of bold harmony is undeniable.”
Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes)
|
|
Emotionally honest lyrics, accompanied by raw vintage guitars and the intimate harmonies Kassie and Benjamin, Nashville’s Goldpine, meld old-school country, singer-songwriter, and alternative folk-rock into a sound that can only be described as “Southern-Soul and Curious-Grit”.
"The easy comparison for Goldpine is the folk duo Shovels and Rope. There’s a similar vibe between the two bands that carries over a somewhat rowdy folk energy with rich harmonies."
Their innovative sound is driven by a racing-striped acoustic guitar and a suitcase kick-drum, but the bold vocal harmonies and Kassie’s powerhouse vocals seal the deal. Voices seamlessly intertwine in delicate thoughtful moments, other times cultivating in a roar of approval.
"The duo Goldpine arrives with such a striking force that it becomes impossible to listen to it only once.”
Goldpine is cathartic, raucous, beautiful and relevant all wrapped into one.

The Steel Wheels
March 31, 8 p.m.
The Avalon Theatre
|
|
The Steel Wheels, who host their own Red Wing Roots Music Festival, are certainly not the first band to use bluegrass music as a springboard to dive into a rainbow of possibilities, but they are certainly among the best that do.
Few groups have come as far in such a short period of time as The Steel Wheels, which has gone from playing East Coast house parties and festivals to gracing the cover of the widely-read industry publication Pollstar.
Smearing the boundaries separating blues, bluegrass and gospel music, The Steel Wheels' sound has earned the band multiple awards and a near-permanent place atop independent music and Americana charts.
Call them bluegrass, folk, country, jammy, roots or Americana. The monikers all fit The Steel Wheels, and they demonstrate they are quite worthy no matter the style.

“Mile Twelve’s strength lies in its ability to apply bluegrass’ natural affect to modern concerns.” WBUR, Boston’s NPR Station
Boston’s modern string band, Mile Twelve, is back in motion. From the first manic downbeat of their virtuosic new record, “Close Enough to Hear”, you’ll discover a band that is ready to explode from a restless pandemic-induced hiatus.
You’ll hear the same warmth and innovation that earned the band IBMA’s 2019 Album of the Year nomination and 2020 New Artist of the Year Award, and that’s gained them an international reputation as one of the most dynamic bands in contemporary acoustic music.

ZOSO
The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience
May 19, 8 p.m.
The Avalon Theatre
|
|
RECOMMENDED IF YOU LOVE JAW DROPPING 3 PART HARMONY
For over 28 years, ZOSO has maintained a reputation as being “the closest to the original of any Led Zeppelin tribute”
Chicago Sun-Times.
It’s pretty clear why: No other tribute band comes close to capturing the look, sound, and magic of when the mighty Zeppelin soared!!
No singer has ever captured the distinctive timbre, range, power, and seductive force of Robert Plant’s vocal delivery as adroitly as ZOSO’s lead vocalist and founder, Matt Jernigan.
ZOSO co-founder Adam Sandling, the band’s multi-instrumental master of electric bass, keyboards, and mandolin, likewise echoes John Paul Jones’ myriad gifts to a tee.
Drummer Bevan Davies, the band’s burly, black-haired batteur, flattens the band’s fans nightly with his Bonham-approved triplet blasts, tympani thunder, and fat, lumbering grooves.
And taking on the demanding Jimmy Page persona is James Volpe Rotondi. Decked out in Page’s iconic dragon matador jacket, two-tone shoes, and cascading black hair, Rotondi wields his Gibson Les Paul and double-neck guitars like he was born to it.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see why ZOSO’s spot-on recreation of the mythic presence of Led Zeppelin onstage keeps their dedicated, longtime fans coming back for more year after year!
