Broomfield Trail Tips:

Do you know the difference between an e-bike and an e-motorcycle? You’ll want to check for functional pedals, the amount of power (750 watts or less) and the speed (under 20 mph). If these requirements aren’t met, you may be purchasing an e-motorcycle which requires a valid drivers license and can only be ridden on roads. Read CCOB’s E-Ride Guide at Broomfield.org/ElectricRideGuide for more information before you buy this holiday season. Visit Broomfield.org/TrailTips for information and trail tips when riding an e-bike, which are permissible on CCOB trails.

Celebrate Safely for the Holidays

Decorating homes and businesses is a long-standing holiday tradition. Unfortunately, these same decorations may increase the chances of a fire. Think about using battery-operated flameless candles, as almost half of all home decoration fires are started by candles around the holidays. If you have a tree for the holidays, be sure your tree is at least three feet away from heat sources. Don’t forget to read the manufacturer's instructions for the number of light strands that can be safely connected.

Graphic titled "Keep It Out Of The Sink" with tagline "Keep Broomfield's Water Clean!" An icon shows a prohibition symbol under a sink draft, containing oil, paint, pill bottles, and contact lenses.

Keep it Out of the Sink

Don’t put these items down the sink drain. They should be properly disposed of:

• F.O.G. (Fats, especially animal,Oil and Grease)

• Household hazardous wastes like paint, fertilizers and pesticides

• Medications

• Contact lenses

These items can clog pipes and cause sewer overflows and backups into homes, businesses and basements, or may release toxins into the water system. Visit Broomfield.org/ProtectWaterSystem to learn more about how to better dispose of these items and what you can do to protect Broomfield’s water.

Local open spaces support a thriving variety of wildlife, from native plants to pollinating insects to birds. As part of the 2026 Broomfield Bioblitz, 325 community scientists helped record 1,000 unique species across Broomfield!

With the help of Butterfly Pavilion and the Broomfield Open Space Action Network, community members logged sightings of 604 native plants and animals. Insects and native flora led the observations, with the Monarch butterfly standing out as the most spotted species of the year. Data collected by volunteers gives Open Space and Trails staff real-time insights to guide ongoing land management, habitat restoration and local conservation planning.
