The Beacon community mourns the passing on October 31 of trustee emeritus Sabino “Sam” Battaglia. From September 1998 to September 2011, he served as an active member on the board, including a one-year stint as board chair (2010-11). He was awarded emeritus status after he stepped down in 2011. He also was the father of Beacon alumna Kristen Battaglia, ’97.
A lifelong resident of Nutley, New Jersey, Battaglia spent more than 45 years working in the energy sector and served as a senior executive with Royal Dutch Shell, the Coastal Corporation and Dominion, according to his online obituary.
“Sam had a huge presence at Beacon College in size and in kindness,” said Dr. Shelly Chandler, Beacon provost. “He was dedicated to the success of Beacon College and took pride in all we accomplish.” He was 77.
 “Peace begins with a smile.”
